A capictor blew up

I'm pretty sure a capictor blew up, (from the bang and the smell). Is this a common problem. I am an engineer so I would readily tackle this if I had a manual. Any advice appreciated

It is not an unusual prob, they can just fail for no apparent reason
It is usually fond in the top of the washer, where the mains cable comes in, a very easy job to replace.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

How do i fix dyson DC41 Animal vacuum upright cleaner it has burning smell coming from motor and it blew the fuse box when i WENT TO VACUUM. the wire flex is a bit over twisted

You most certainly shorted this out and will need a new cord. Easy fix but you will have to take it apart and find where it failed. I doubt the motor fried but it is possible. When you take it apart look for the burn mark left by the electrical arc. That is the point you fix.

I am not sure what is going on but I am pretty sure that I shouldn' t have to be putting in coolant into my car 2 times a month. The car temperature is just fine ( always stays between C and H ) and...

Check your radiator hoses going into your engine. Best case, you may just have a leak that is dripping onto your engine, hence the smell. Worst case, take a look at your exhaust when your car is operating at normal temperature. If there is white smoke coming out, you may have a cracked engine block, the coolant is leaking into your engine and produces white smoke from your exhaust when it is burned.

2002 dodge intrepid, 2.7 L engine, the top of the Engine Coolant Outlet Flange blew off. What does this part do and what could cause it to literally blow off (top blew off from body of flange)?

that is the water outlet housing. It is really common for this to happen. It has probably been leaking for quite some time (usually a bunch of dried up coolant around that area).

They are fairly easy to replace and the parts are usually readily available. I'm pretty sure NAPA caries them as well as the dealer.

You will need to remove the intake plenum to get at one of the bolts that hols it in place. Its not that big of a deal to remove. Just remember to replace the plenum gasket and torque the bolts to the proper spec.

If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

Chrysler new yorker with a 3.0 liter v-6 engine burns and smells oil and stalls when hot. Can anything be done other than change the engine to fix or improve this problem?

Bad valve guides and seats were pretty common item on those 3.0L engines in those days. Caused oil to leak in beside guides and into cylinder, especially at idle, or after hard acceleration, then let off (highest vacuum ) when warm. If your handy at all, heads can be done pretty reasonably at engine shop, or even get a set of heads from newer engine, when problem was cured.

Here in the US the NTSB can be contacted online or by phone. National Traffic Safty Board surely has a Canadian counterpart. They will have a list of TSB(technical Service Bullitins) and recalls. But it's 15 years old and they probably don't apply anymore. 251 K is pretty long life though. I had 362K on a GMC 350, then it blew the head gasket too.

Head gasket/ timing etc

Not 100% sure on that engine, but I'd be looking at my timing chain & gears, especially if gears have nylon teeth. Pull covers & have a look at condition & positioning for correct. Other thing I'd check is distributor & especially gear at end of shaft. If metal gear at bottom, you should be o.k.,but if nylon, could have melted.heated & distorted or broke. Be sure to mark it for re-install & don't crank engine before re-install.

Petrol smell from engine

I think you might be only intermittantly noticing it.
Check around the fuel injectors for signs of wetness as soon as you notice it again. Failure of the metal-plastic junctions is pretty common. Their expansion and contraction rates are different so eventually, the seal can fail.
