hi , primary/secondary transformer checks ok but no voltage to primary side. bridge rectifier is working ok , having problems following circuit without a diagram not sure what else is in between these two .do you any more info ?

my PS3 power pack is dead , I have mains voltage in and the on-board fuse is good but I dont have voltage at primary terminals of the transformer . due to the layout of the circuit board and components it make fault finding difficult has anybody got information on which components i should be checking in relation to this problem?

If there's power on the power supply, then it's obviously(well not that obvious) the ribbon that connects to the little on/off and eject board.

Yo, i had the exact same problem but a very helpful fellow named GILSKY suggested that i checked the ribbon that connects from the main PS3 board to the little board in the front with the on/off and eject button. It turned out that i've somehow bent my ribbon in 3 places and just changed ribbon with another PS3's ribbon and it worked, so it seems that they are very fragile. And also make sure to put the ribbon in the right way!!!

Oh and don't thank me, thank GILSKY!!!

Are you getting any power from the power adapter?

Unfortunately not, I have not looked too deep into the PS3s and I don't have one here that I can play with. I'm sorry I could not resolve your issue. Good luck!

Check the voltages at the input terminals & output terminals of the transformer. If you find voltages at the inputs & no voltages at the outputs, then you have a defective transformer that needs to be replaced.

If the transformer is OK, then start testing the components next to the transformer. There might be a disconnected joint along the circuit path causing the missing volts. You might suspect a failed bridge rectifier section.

Based on your comments, it seems that the power supply unit is working fine.
The next step would be to start removing ribbon cables from other boards. For instance, remove the ribbon cable to the controller port board. Try to power your PlayStation again. If it works, then the controller port is shorted somewhere. If it did not power on, then put the cable back in where you pulled it from. Next, remove the CD assembly, try to power on the PlayStation again & see if it works. You might needto repeat this for the various parts in the PlayStation till you find out which exact part is defective.

I'm sorry that I don't have schematics. They are very difficult to find as Sony treats them as private property. Only Sony qualified technicians have them handy.

Please ignore my previous post. I was thinking in the wrong direction.
Since you do not have the 12v from the pin contacts or 5v & 12v on/off from the white flying connector, then I would suggest you test the resistors right next to where you plug the power cord into. This is a great spot to check to see if you are getting power to the power supply board. These resistors might be burned out. Check for resistance on each resistor; if it is open then the resistor is bad & it needs to be replaced.

Fault to its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Screen went black/won't power on

This is a common problem

The first step is to check the fuse on the power supply board. Next, disconnect the inverter board to eliminate the possibility of it shorting down the main and or power boards. Be careful as the inverter board supplies high voltage to the cold cathode tubes (backlights) and it bites HARD. If you disconnect the inverter and the power led comes up then replace the inverter board. (The screen will appear blank because you have no backlighting). If the power indicator still fails to light you need to suspect the main board first before the powwer supply board. The main board tells the power supply board to come on. You need to check the trigger from the main board to the relays on the power supply board. Also check the power connector to the main board because you should see +12V and/or +5V on at least some of the pins. If no power on the relay triggers then replace logic board. Then replace Power supply board last. Or buy a new monitor!!

Display panel

You need to remove top and check for 12v and 5v,( put multimeter leads on wires one at a time) going into display panel from main board. If you see 12v and 5v than display board is very bad.If no voltage at all then main b. is bad or the noise filter fuse is bad.

50 in lg plasma wont turn on just clicks

hi,
you have to check the power supply first.

As u mentioned about the click sound, the 5v standby supply is ok. The click sound you hear is from the standby relay.
you have to check the other power supplies in the SMPS (switch mode power supply board) board.
first of all check the standby supply 5v on tne pin of connector P800. check the voltage at this point in standby condition and at the time of power on. it should stay at 5v. if it reduces the you have to check the components related with standby SMPS transformer T501.

If the 5v volt is ok the u have to check the 3.4 v at the pin 1 and 2 of connector P802, at the time of power on. if it is missing then check the components related to T112 ,also check the following voltages at the same power on condition.

19v at Pin 1and 2 of P803
6v at the pin 5 and 6 of P802
12v at the pin 9and 10 of P802

check these to verify your tv's power supply
proper care should be taken while working with power supply, because there is risk of getting electric shock.
if you need any more assistance fell free to contact me through fixya.
I have with me its field service manual ( does not have any schematics) if u need that i will sent it to you, if u give me your email id through fixya.
ok

Westinghouse LTV-32w6 power light on, no video, no sound

One thing is to make sure the inverter board is unplugged when testing the voltages. A shorted inverter will shut down the power supply if the fuse dosen't blow first. There are fuses that don't look like fuses so they can be missed. The next thing would be to look for a connector from the main to power supply and see if there is a pin labeled power on or p.on or similar. The main board should turn this line high(5V) when you push the power button. If not you probably have a bad main board. Unless you can find good used boards they are both expensive. Around $200 for PS and $300 for main.
