Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDI02IRBS Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

About a month ago, our dishwasher stopped working properly. It runs fine and the soap is being used, but the dishes are not being cleaned and especially on the top rack. I opened the dishwasher this morning while it was running and I noticed that the coil on the bottom was red (maybe heating water) but only about 1/16th of it. Could this be the problem?

Hi
In a dishwasher you can see the water trickle upward to the upper nozzle in dishwasher...but if it does not have enough pressure,it will not function properly.tap the delivery tube that feeds this nozzle and you will see the water pressure jump imediately.so the problem lies either with the pump or maybe the impeller....for some reason the full flow of water is not making it to the upper spray arm.
The problem was not enough water to get the arm to spin.To test this just add a pan of water to the wash cycle and see if the arm spins. If it does then the problem may be with the water intake line. There is a screen at the connection where the intake line enters the dishwasher. So turn the supply valve off and disconnect the intake line and remove particles that may be traped in the screen. The cause of the particles is from the hot water tank that tend to accumulate a bit of corrosion on the bottom of tank. To remedy this just open the valve at the bottom of the hot water tank and drain it in a pan until the water is clear.
OR
There might be a clog in the water supply line from the pump on the bottom to the upper spray arm under the top rack .sometimes residue just on the top shelf may stop the upperspray arm rotating.you will find small hole pointing sideways at each end of the spray arms. The spray from these holes propel the spray arm to rotate.Chek if they are blocked.

How much vinegar do you add to the dishwasher?

For regular monthly maintenance fill the dishwasher soap dish with vinegar once a month and run a regular cycle with an empty dishwasher. If you're having problems with dishes not getting clean or dishwasher soap build up on the floor of your dishwasher do the above now. You may need to run the empty dishwasher with vinegar a few times to clean the drain lines; running empty once a week with vinegar is not too often.

Recent changes in the law prevent soap makers from putting phosphates in dishwasher soap so they're not as effective as the were even a few months ago.  Unfortunately,  the solution is more thorough rinsing before loading.

I get a film on the inside of dishwasher as well as dishes at the end of a cycle. You can really see the cloudy film on glasses. Dishwasher is only 18 months old.

Cloudy film is usually from hard water. Or it means the dishes arn't drying properly. you wanna make sure your using jet dry and that your not using liquid soap. Liquid soap is a killer of dishwashers and creates mineral deposits. If you have hard water getting a water softener helps too. Theres a cleaning agent called dishwasher magic that works to clean the dishwasher . You wanna make sure your heater is coming on too.

The dishes do not rinse properly--despite rinse

run some calcium lime and scale remover throught the unit on an empty wash cycle just to get rid of any build up that may be there.
turn the rinse aid down to about half way.
also check the phosphours content of you washing agent.
there is a lot of factor involved with leaving film on the dishes, it could also be residual soap content that is sticking to your dishes.
reduce the amount of soap a little.does not matter if it is liquid or powder.
once every three months you need to run cleaner through the machine.
last thing but very important make sure the incoming water temp i no lowe rthan 120 degrees.

I just bought a used Kenmore standalone dishwasher and ran it for the first time. The dishes on the top did not get clean and the soap did not come out of the closed soup dish. at one point I took a shower...

The inlet filter is probably clogged. Try letting it fill up. Open the door to stop it right after it starts to wash Pour a gallon or two of hot water in and see it it works better Stop and do this everytime it goes to fill up. If the door opens , soap is used and dishes are clean ,clean the filter in the fill valve and possibly replace it. or the whole valve. (around $25) The soap door may be a seperate problem. I don't remember if Kenmore uses a spring or a small heat element to open the soap dispenser. Try cleaning it really well, shut the dispenser, open the door and turn the timer very , very slowly and watch to see if the dispenser opens. (WIth the door open the dishwasher will not run, but leave it plugged in.) It should open sometime during the cycle.

Kenmore dishwasher has never cleaned dishes

make sure you are getting plenty of water. Start the D/W without putting soap in disp. run for about 1 minute, Make sure there are no suds inside. If there is, run full cycle to get excessive amount of soap out. If no suds check in pump resevoir to make sure its not clogged.
