Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
My best friends mum has a computer on Windows Xp Home edition, she hasnt been using it long so she is very fragile on the technical side and hasnt a clue *bless*.
I was over hers at the weekend as she told me that windows wasnt booting up anymore, and that she had a dialog box appearing quite often asking her to "Activate Windows". Well this machine was purchased off someone else, and with her not knowing what things are she presume everything was ok. Now the activation period has ran out and the machine boots up as far as the login and asks her to activate, but she hasnt no product key to do so, as the machine didn't come with one. I've tried a few things to figure out how to get it fixed but without a product key I cant go no futher. Can someone help me please
Many Thanks in advance
You are going to have to have a product key# found on the COA. A COA from an old computer that is not in use (and it must match the version installed - home or pro) will do the trick. You can also call Microsoft at the number provided on the activation screen (activate by phone) and they will sell you a license. Probably a bit more than $20 tho!

JellybeanFinder is a program that can display all windows and office keys.
But this may still be a problem is windows does not start. Try booting in Safe Mode, hitting F8 after turning on the computer.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
