My TV has developed a loud buzzing sound. Tha lamp seems to work ok, and the sound seems to be emanating from the fan, which is working. Fan or color wheel? The picture comes on, but seems to deteriorate after a few minutes. The buzz is very loud, almost a grinding sound. The sound stops about 5 seconds after I turn the tv off.

Loud sound would be coming from defective color wheel that is mounted i light engine, next to lamp housing. Replacement of color wheel is required expertise/ experience and professional will do that for you in correct and in safe manner.

My 61" Samsung DLP has loud Buzzing sound - Everything else ok

There are only 2 moving parts on a dlp tv the color wheel and the fan. The color wheel needs to be replaced about every 4 to 5 years. Some start to make noise and others like mine blow up with a bang. Go to utube to get instructions on how to replace it only cost me for part $100 good luck

Loud buzzing sound

Hello Jack,

That buzzing might be two things. It could be the color wheel or the ballast for the bulb. To check this you will have to move the projection section of the TV out of the case and listen for the sound in the area of the color wheel and the ballast. Try removing the color wheel power to see if the buzzing stops if it does then it's the color wheel is not and the ballast is buzzing then It's the ballast, and it will need replacing or if you know electronics you could try fixing the old ballast (I would suggest getting a new ballast).

Better still if you are uncomfortable working on the set you could get a qualified TV repair person to repair your TV .

I hope this helps,
Thank you,
