Pattern calls for 3/16 seam allowance. What is that in comparison to the marks in my machine?

Well, the normal seam allowance is 5/8ths. Always has been except on crafts and doll clothes. 3/16ths is 1/3 of the normal 5/8ths so I would think, now wider than the width of your sewing foot.

I have a Singer Merrittlock Differemtial Feed 14u244 Serger complete with manuals. However, none of the manuals or brochure have instructions on where to oil the machine. Therefore I need lubrication...

Page 40 of the manual shows three oiling points on the rear of the sewing surface to be oiled: two holes in the surface and the pivot point for the arm. These are marked with "2-3 drops"

It is equally important to regularly remove all lint from the cutting blades, around the loopers and behind the covers as lint will absorb any lubricant present. I also clean my blades with a cloth with a bit on oil on it every so often to remove all lint and leave an oily film on the blades.

There is one way out. Give the sewing m/c a thorough servicing job, Clear all the pieces of cloth/fabric/threads, etc Remove the bobbin and load afresh. Clear out the toothed sliders which pulls the cloth while stitching. the thread being used for stitching passes a sort of loop, the tension being controlled by how much the pressure the spring can exert such that depending on the material being stitched. Specially after stitching satin, which is tricky material to stitch in a sewing m/c since the cloth is slippery. Also clear sewing jam and the metal teeth like rack which pushes the cloth for the next stitch to start. This area if cleaned up properly and a little bit of oiling on the spring loader and the spindle assembly which moves up & down...............................sudeep

I bought a hand held sewing machine that has no markings on is except for the size and strength of the motor, I don't know how to use it, I need some instructions, or directions on how to use. thank you

Is there a makers name on the machine anywhere? have a really good look underneath, behind the motor(if it's an external motor), if you can easily take any of the covers off have a look inside. All we need is one word then I can point you in the right direction.

It is important to leave about 3 inches out of the end of the loopers when threading. leave them lie where they come out of the jets. Put fabric under the foot and sew, do not wory about putting the thread under the foot. If it still does not work try changing the needles.
