On the front right side is a black rubber strip. Peel back the part which has the SD writing.

My magellan triton 500 will not fully turn on. It statrts to load the bat goes all the way and then freezes. I can not turn it off either.

You need to reset the magellan triton 500, then it will fully come on and stay on. To reset this type of magellan. What you have to do is to take out the battery and reinstall it back in. That should do the job for you, and if that does not solve the problem, then you have to back up the maps on a computer then format the triton then restore the software and maps back on it. Now am assuring you that will do the job.
Hope this information helped you.

Add SD memory

You can add up to 8GB of SD memory. Your best approach is to add an 8GB SDHC Sandisk (always use Sandisk) Flash Memory card. You can find these cards with TOPO maps installed at the http://www.jungleghost.com website. You can also find the latest instruction manual that describes how to install the card.

Under the front right side black cover .. you will also see an "SD" impression in the cover. Pry up carefully with sharp knife from the bottom of the flap.

My magellan triton 500 was left on all night. After replacing the batteries it only comes to the first screen, fills the progress bar and freezes, won't shut off. I've tried removing the sd card - no...

When the batteries died .. a problem was created with the internal memory files. They have been corrupted. It is too complicated to fix yourself. If the is out of warranty, the Jungle Ghost at http://www.jungleghost.com/repair_service.shtml has a repair service. He works for Magellan Distributors to fix their units.

Installing national geographic topo maps on my magellan triton500

Two possible answers and they are both dependable on the serial number of the map vs.the serial number of the GPS. The best solution is to use Vantage Point to do the transfer. The second method is to directly load the map to an SD card under the directory MAP_DATA and then place in the GPS. Then do a MENU>>VIEW>>MAPS and activate the map. If the map is missing you do not have it under the MAP_DATA directory. If the map shows a RED "X" then the serial number of the map is not the same as the serial number of the GPS.

I like to up grade my sd card on my magelian 360 roadmate E-mail as follow:bojo9335@verizon.net

To change the sd-card do the following:

Peel back the rubber gasket to expose the SD card slot. Do not
completely remove the rubber gasket.
Push the SD card until you hear a click. Do not attempt to pull
the card out of the slot
Remove the SD card from the slot.

To Insert new SD Card

Insert the SD card into the slot (Do not force
the card into the slot.)
with the metal contacts going in
first and the beveled edge to the left.
Push the SD card until you hear a click.
Close the rubber gasket.

Magellan triton 500 freezes up

You might have an sd card inserted that contains information that the unit doesn't recognize. This happened to me when I tried to fudge some old magellan destination maps onto the sd card...the format was wrong and the unit froze...gave me the message.

Magellan Triton 500 value bundle

magellan has a big problem in the past with the Canada Value Pack. It did not work with the Triton. It was only made to work with the older Magellan GPS units.

Best to contact Magellan and see if they will give you a new one.

Magellan triton 400....fatal error?

Jenn,

OK .. take out the SD card. Then power up the unit and do a MENU>>VIEW>>SETTINGS>>MEMORY.

First do a CLEAR MEMORY and after that is completed do a RESET FACTORY DEFAULTS.

Now you unit will be ok and you can place your SD card back in the unit. By the way .. never use an SD or SDHC card smaller than 4GB on the unit.
