I have green and blue arched lines across my screen. how do i fix this

This is one of a group of sets that had bad picture tubes. A lot of them were replaced out of hand when the sets were new--I did dozens of them.

The tubes are no longer available from Sony and only available on a rebuild basis--remove the bad one and send it out for rebuild at about 300 per tube.

HERE IS WHAT I suggest:

With the set at first unplugged you need to remove the entire plastic grill under the front screen. It is secured in one of two ways: either 4 or more screws on the back on either side; it pulls out from the bottom and has tabs that are tucked into slots just under the screen.

The front controls/keyboard are mounted into it so if you get it free you tilt the front grill on its left side to the left; there are wire ties you can release to get more room.

The other way some versions use is there are two hidden screws at the bottom front covered with caps--remove them and lift from bottom and tilt to the left.

The idea here is to try to turn the screen controls for the green and blue (in your case) down.

With the grill out of the way you will find an inspection plate behind it dead center---remove that.

ONE row is marked Focus (Do not touch those) You have to look closely as the controls are black and hard to read--left to right green will be in the middle and red or blue on either side of it.

With the set now turned on go to a unused video input: Locate the blue screen control( tiny letters will be b,g, red with green in the middle---turn the blue down slowly (usually to the left) until any blue lines and or blue background vanish---in your case then repeat with the green SCREEN control until any green curved lines or back ground are gone.

The idea is to lower each screen control until they just vanish--when properly done on the blank input you should only see the "VIDEO 1" ETC in green, with no other color in the background. Do it slowly and it should take less than 1/4 of a turn for this.

If it works you should now have a good black and white picture.

Since these sets have a history of this kind of problem you may only be buying some time---I have done it on dozens of sets and many last more than a year or more without repeat of the problem.

This gives you more life from the set and time to save up to replace it.

Let me know before you attempt this if you have any questions.

If this information told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

This was one of several Sony models that had bad picture tubes--the set uses a red, green, and blue tube.

There is something easy you can try that may help you get some more life from the set.

Here is what you need to do.

1.) You need to remove the entire plastic piece below the front of the screen. You most likely will find 3 screws on either side in back that you have to remove.

2.) The grill will not come out easy, pull from one side and then when it starts to come loose from the other side(there are several plastic pegs that hold it in.) Then from the bottom pull out( most of these sets have square plastic tabs at the top that tuck in.)

3.) With the grill removed locate the inspection plate behind it (it usually has 6 screws.) You will have to tilt the grill to the left and on its side as several cables are connected to it--they are held in place with trash bag like ties that you can release to get some room.

4.) With the inspection plate removed you will see a fairly small (about 3 inch square) BLACK PLASTIC BLOCK WITH SIX CONTROLS-usually they are marked with whiteout so someone can tell if they have been adjusted.

5.) You need to look very close at the block with a flashlight----usually the top three controls are FOCUS--don't touch those.
The lower three are usually marked Screen and if you look very close you will see b, g, r(blue green red)

6.)Usually the GREEN will be in the middle.

7.) Once you locate the BLUE screen control have the set on and turn it down--if the set is shutting down you may have only a few seconds to try to turn it down---usually to the left with the Screen control.

8.) Best way to do this if the set is on is on a video input clip_image001.gif with nothing connected--you turn the Blue screen down until the set stays on and then very slowly turn it up until you see a slightly Blue screen with or without diagonal trace lines----turn it down slowly until the Blue screen and trace lines just disappear.

Let me know if you get it to work--Like I said if it is shutting down you may have to slowly turn the screen down a few times to get it to stay on.

If it works you may only be buying some time--if the blue tube caused this it may return at some point.

If all this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

I just bought this tv, and have a 3-d appearance on the screen?

If the unit has been moved or jolted, you can usually use the correct factory remote and access menu settings and look under color. You are looking for an alignment setting. In many cases by using the remote in this menu/settings mode on your t.v., you can re-align the red/ green /blue colors into the correct setting. There may also be a re-set to factory settings that you can try.

Color adjust

Adjusting the picture tubes is a scary proposition, but since you have already done it...
The easiest way to balance the gray scale is to turn the color all the way down on the set. The next part is easier with two people if the screen controls are on the back of the set. This is the part you saw that has six small knobs on it. There are control for the focus of the red, gree and blue and for the screen level of the red, green and blue. You will want to adjust the screen controls in an effort to get the picture black and white (this is why you turn the color down), hence the term "gray scale". Just make slight adjustments, take your and be patient. It will take some time, but you will get your picture balanced back out in time.

Hope this helps!

Screen is filled with a circular Red/Green/Blue pattern

The problem will be with the de-gausing circuit, this de-magnetises the tube when the set is switched on from cold, this is a fault you will need to get an engineer to look at ie, not a D.I.Y repair.
