Viruses don't play with volume controls. More likely that your sound card can't cope with the settings you are trying to impose on it.

Also, if you go to Control Panel - Sounds, the settings are more permanent when you set them there rather than in the Systray Area on the right of the Taskbar by the clock.

Sound like the driver for the sound section is turned off

Right click my computer and click manage, then click devices

check to see if there are any questions marks for any devices
If there is, reload the driver for that device and it should work again

Well if you think you have a virus chances are you do, to settle this make sure you have your windows XP or whatever OS disk ready and FORMAT the partition or even better delete the parition and format it to ensure you have a clean boot record and or hard disk as a whole once that is done test your theory chances are your 100 percent on the money!! do not and I repeat do not try to clean this and walk with a antivirus program this will not get rid of the whole virus it just quarenteens it witch is not good.

I have a 6th generation iPod Nano. This is the fifth one I've had and they all have had the same problem. At some point (usually after I've had it about a month) it starts to turn the volume down...

The only thing I can think of is that maximum limit has been set low and is somehow lowering itself. To set the maximum limit

On the home screen, tap settings
Tap Music, then tap Volume Limit
The volume limit control will then come up to raise the limit move the slider all the way to the right.

If you want to stop the volume limit moving you can put in a passcode by clicking on the Lock Volume Limit and entering a passcode (I'd just put in 1234, so you can remember it easily(

Hope this helps.

Hello, im using sony vaio VPCEB3J1E,speaker is not working but head is working, what is the problem?

For Vista/windows 7
Check with volume settings.

Right click on the speaker icon in taskbar and select volume control options.

Put a check mark on "All devices currently playing sound".

Make sure you have "The default communication device unchecked".

Place a check mark on both speakers and headphones.

For Windows XP

- Speakers, Headphones

In "Control Panel", select "Switch to Classic View", and open "Sounds and Audio Devices".

In "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties", click the "Audio" tab, and click the "Volume" of "Sound playback".

On the "Master Volume" screen, click "Properties" in the "Options" menu.

Add a check mark to "Playback" of "Adjust volume for" on the "Properties" screen, and check marks to "Master Volume" and "Wave" for the control to be displayed, and click the "OK" button.

On the "Master Volume" screen, remove the check marks from "Mute all" of "Master Volume" and "Mute" of "Wave".
Note: The settings may differ depending on the PC you are using. Please check items such as sound in the manual for the PC you are using.

Your sound control is likely turned off or turned all the way down.
Depending on your sound controller....

To change the volume there are 2 sliders not just 1. It s the master volume (the one u are moving) and the Wave Volume or "Application" as Vista likes to call it..

Right Click your volume icon > Open Volume Mixer > Turn the other Slider (aplications) to max.
That should do it..

It went down because some programs (most actually) internally use the Application volume, so when u switch the volume inside the program THAT slider moves.. not the master one. And it doesn t always come back to the point where it was after u leave the game/program..

Sound/Audio went out after logging out of Skype. Don't think Skype had anything to do with it...if there is such a thing as a soundboard, I think it went SNAFU.

Just restart the computer . double click on the speaker icon and see master volume/wave is muted or not. If there is no icon, insert the motherboard cd and install sound drivers.

Wave on master volume keeps decreasing on its own

I have nver come accross a setting that will lock the volume to a set level before, but here are a couple of possibilities that you may want to investigate for the cause.

  1. Not all programs use the master volume control, so do, but most adjust the sound by the wav output. Put the mixer onto the desktop, open things like winamp, media player etc and adjust the volume controls on those to see what is doing what.
  2. If you have a multimedia keyboard with a volume control on it, make sure when your typing it's not adjusting the volume at the same time. Again, put the mixer on the desktop out of the way and type as you would normally. It could even be just the vibrations from typing setting it off.
See how you go and post back your results
