Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
Also try another drive if you can, if it still does not show the drive,
try flashing the BIOs to the latest release, if that dosn't work,
then unfortunately this is a common fault with this model and is a hardware fault on the motherboard.

for removing bios password you must have to remove cimos bettery for few mnuts but for doing this you have to open case of laptop
and it is not adviceable because your notebook is new one
so find any service station if yor laptop is in warranty period or you may lose your warranty
there isn't any other way to clear cmos without opening case of your laptop and remove cmos bettery
unless you will get cmos password but as u said you didn't put password in your laptop it might be possible that your notebook manufacture him self had put any password in cmose as a company policy
in that case also you must have to go to them

If you remove the base plastic cover to expose the memory ect.. All you have to do is locate the wifi card then remove it (very easy) you will then see the system board battery. Now place a flat screwdriver so that it touches both of the wires going to the system board from the battery. this should reset the bios.....

SOURCE: reset bios password or remove
Search for !BIOS,
remove the battery on the laptop's motherboard, wait a few minutes, then reinsert the battery,
Read your laptop's manual and find a BIOS reset jumper, and put a piece of metal between the two prongs to reset the BIOS.

My Aspire 5100 not only looses the cdrom but also the hard drive! It sometimes beeps 3 times.. I'd go into set-up (BIOS) and niether the hard drive or dvd would be listed.. As a last resort, I flashed the motherboard bios with the latest version from Acer and so far the problem hasn't returned. I also set the laptop to hibernate after 30 minutes of non use when both on battery or on ac power. Reason? My problem always started when I left my laptop unattended for some time. When I'd return, the computer would be off.. not asleep or hibernating, but off - even though it was set to never turn off in the power settings in windows. When I'd turn it back on, that is when the hard drive and dvd rom would vanish in the BIOS. So as an added precaution, I set the laptop to always hibernate after 30 minutes.. Like I say, so far so good..
