Monitor and power issue

I am having trouble with my 2120 laptop. I have it plugged in overnite and when I turn on the power button it comes on for about 30 seconds and then powers off. I wonder if it is just a bad battery. When the power is on the screen never comes on just stays black. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you for the help. The model is 2120US. I left it plugged in all nite and it still will not come on not even while it is plugged in. Your help is appreciated

I followed the link and did the instructions and it is still doing it. I have taken the battery out and plugged the power in and it still does the same thing. It powers on, all the lights come on, the disk drive runs with a disc in it, the monitor does not come on and then at exactly 30 sec. it powers off. I have no idea what it can be. But, I sure appriciate your time and thoughts. I hope the additional information might help. My daughter used it for college and I got her a new one and just wanted to use this one around the house.

I think so too. I want to thank you for the time that you have given to me on it. I will carry it to the computer guys at my work and see if I can get a hook up.

Thanks again for the help :)

Check with an external monitor. That will tell you if the monitor is faulty or the mother board has issues.

Power is on but monitor does not come on

check the cable, wiring harness, check the outlet for power, make sure you do not have it is a plug that may have switch some where where it turns or shut the power to that outlet.

or can it be video card issue, or plugs adapter is faulty, try a different outlet or different plug in your power strip. check the power strip if you have one, make sure the power strip is on, push the reset button on the power strip.

if you motherboard has internal vga adapter try setting resolution to the lowest setting plug you monitor into the motherboard to see if the issue is the video card or cards.

turn monitor off and on see if it getting warm.
the resolutions maybe to high try lower setting temp.

see if the monitor has manufactures restore or reset button on the monitor some where, it would be around all the connectors are located.
does the light comes on when you turn on in the front of monitor.

if all fails than it is time for a new one.

thank you rod

Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop monitor is dark.

It is a posible LCD problem, Might gone defective.

First trouble shooting is to turn off your laptop completele and the remove the battery and the charger and any accesories connected on yur lap top. Then press the power button for 1 minute. It will reset the settings of your laptop to default if you accidentally press the command for the hotkey to turn off the built in monitor and enabled the extended monitor.

If the issue persist it means it is an issue with the LCD and needs to be replaced.

Laptop doesnt boot and the monitor doesn't switch on. When we switch on the laptop the processor runs for few seconds and then shuts down and the system tries to restart itself..

Hi,

You can try the following steps:

1. Unplug the power from the laptop and remove the battery then press the power button of the laptop for 15 seconds

2. Put the battery back in, turn on the laptop without plugging the power to the laptop (If this didn't resolve the issue)

3. Remove the battery and press the power button of the laptop for 15 seconds, after that, plug the power cord and turn on the laptop (if this didn't resolve the issue)

4. Remove the power cord and press the power button of the laptop for 15 seconds, disconnect the Hard drive and turn on the laptop (If this didn't resolve the issue) reconnec the hard drive

5. Remove the Optical Drive and turn on the laptop (If this didn't resolve the issue) reconnect the optical drive

6. Remove the memory chip, if you have 2 memory chips installed in the 2 memory slots (remove both of them) now test each one of the memory to each slots turning on the laptop. (If this didn't resolve the issue) Put the memory chip back in

7. Reseat the CPU and try to make sure that it's installed properly. Turn on the laptop and test if it's gonna work (If this didn't resolve the issue)

8. Reseat the power cords coming from the power supply of the laptop and test the laptop. (If this didn't resolve the issue)

9. Disconnect everything and just leave the CPU installed and turn on the laptop.

10. If all else fails, there's a big possibility that the problem may be with the power supply or the motherboard of the laptop.

(Note: you may try to clean your computer if there is a large amount of dust. You may try to remove the CMOS battery)

Blank screen upon startup

Try taking out the hard disk, plug in power and see if you have a display on your screen or external monitor. if same thing happen, try taking out the memory card. If you hear a beep sound it's a faulty mem. card, if no beep sound appears I suspected it's a motherboard faulty.
