The latch is solenoid operated. remove power from the stove (unplug or breaker). That should release the lock. Close the door and power back on. Hopefully all will be reset.

One thermostat (sometimes at the back of the stove) is open/blown or the door locking assembly has failed. To open the door you may remove the back of the stove; take the door locking assembly apart to release the long wire that hooks the door close.
On some models you can see the locking the latching mechanism through a **** in the top front and can play with the mechanisms there to release the door.
Then you can begin to figure why the door latched in the first place.

I have a fridgadare stove that reads code f9.

OK, I will list the Possible causes and the solutions below to combat this issue you are experiencing.

POSSIBLE CAUSES--

1. Door motor failure / jammed. Latch
motor switch failure.
2. Control software failure, or component
failure (relay stuck).
3. Wiring Problem.

SOLUTIONS--

1. Press CLEAR key.

2. If CLEAR key does not eliminate problem, turn off power for 30 seconds, then turn on power.

3. Check wiring of Lock Motor, and Lock Switch A, and Door Switch circuits.

4. Unplug P4, apply power (L1) directly to the Lock Motor, if the motor does not rotate, replace Lock Motor Assembly. Plug P4.

5. Check Lock Switch A for proper operation (do they open and close, check with ohmmeter). The Lock Motor may be powered as in above step to open and close Lock Switch. If the Lock Switch
is defective, replace Motor Lock Assembly.

6. If all above steps fail to correct situation, replace control.

Since the door is open and the lock is engaged, you will need to hold the "door closed" switch in located in the top left door opening. Push and hold the switch in, push the clean button, set the time at 3:00 hours, keep holding the switch in for 20 seconds, then push cancel button. The motorized locking mechanism should disengage. Then, you can release the switch. Hope this helps.

Stove 2001 i cleaned my sove but the lock never released and i cant close the oven.

The lock motor may have failed. On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. remove the motor and unhook the rod from the motor cam to operate the lock manually

I let the door stay open, hold the switch closed with my finger, activated self clean. Let it run for a minute then hit cancel, the stove heating element shut off and the locked door blinked for 5 seconds then finally stopped. Back to normal.
