How do i customize ring tones? (i.e. use my own music, etc.)?

Hi there,

Please find steps to customize ringtones.

Note: in order to be able to use this method one has to have two Motorola phones: the W510 and an older one that isn't ringtone-locked (I tried a V190 and and RAZR V3 and both worked).

First create a backup directory on your drive and call it something like "Original Motorola W510 audio directory". The name doesn't really matter as long as you can find it later if you ever need those files again. Next install the ringtones you want to have on your W510 to the old uncrippled phone.

Then follow these steps:

Step 1 - Connect the W510 to your computer via USB or Bluetooth

Step 2 - Fire up P2K (latest version)

Step 3 - In the right pane navigate to P2k:/c/mobile/audio/ on the W510; in the left pane navigate to the backup directory you just created on your hard drive. It will be empty.

Step 4 - Select all the files in P2k:/c/mobile/audio/, right-click and select "copy", the files will be automatically pasted in your backup directory.

Step 5 - Delete all the files in P2k:/c/mobile/audio/. Once this is done the "audio" directory will have vanished so it's possible that P2K will crash, this is not a problem.

Step 6 - Create a new directory on your disk, name doesn't matter. Unplug the W510 from the computer and reboot it (the phone), then close P2K (if it hasn't crashed already) and plug the older Motorola phone into the computer, wait for the computer to recognize the new phone, then restart P2K. On the right pane navigate to the old phone's audio directory (same location as on the W510), on the left go to the new directory you have just created.

Step 7 - use the method described in Step 4 to copy all the files in the audio directory to your hard disk. *Do not erase any files in the old phone's audio directory*
Shut P2K down and unplug the old phone from the computer. Plug in the W510 and wait for the computer to recognize it. Once this is done fire up P2K once more.

Step 8 - Remember that the audio directory on the W510 is gone, so you can't navigate directly to it, you need to create it first. In the right pane go to /c/mobile/ and select "New Folder" from the menu at the bottom of the pane. Name the new folder "audio" and navigate to it.

Step 8 - In the left pane navigate to the new directory on your hard drive that contains the audio files from the old phone.

Step 9 - Copy all those audio files to the new audio folder you just created on the W510.

Step 10 - That's it, your W510 now contains every single ringtone that was on your old phone and all of them now have the "apply" option enabled so the W510 will now accept any of those sounds as a ringtone.

Unfortunately the W510 still won't accept sounds from any other source than the old phone but as long as you're able to get those those sounds (inclding custom sounds) to register as ringtones on the old phone you'll be able to transfer them to the W510 using the method described above. It's a little tedious but there ain't no such thing as a free lunch is there

Thanks

S

Trying to transfer file from pc to phone phone only accepts push files

The best way to do this is with Motorola Phone Tools and a USB cable for your phone. You can transfer ringtones, videos (if supported), and pictures. The cost for this is about 35 bucks but you may be able to find an older version for less.

Can't delete ringtones/sounds or pics to make room for downloading

okay what ya need to do. is get a usb cord that connects to your phone and a computer.

1. Plug the phone into the computer.
2. download p2k commander of some sort.
3. You may or may not have to download a driver for this. but if you do then just go to google and type in driver for razr v3 and it will come up.
4. Then go to control panel. There will be a option of phone and modem options. Click that.
5. Then go to Modems.
6. It should say USB Modem and out next to it have a number like COM3 or something.
7. You go to the p2k commander, and then go to options. Uncheck all the boxes except Use this com port.
8. Then out next to it type in the COM port that your phone was on..Click ok,
9. Now look at the bottom left of the p2k commander. If it says GENERIC FAILURE. That means that its working. If not then it means there is a problem in which i can't fix.
10. But go to the right and click the down arrow and change it to /a p2k phone system. Click re read.
11. it should take a second then go to the only file there. Then click shared.
12. Then go to audio.
13. Then there is all your songs.. click on the song that you want deleted, then go to the bottom and click the delete button :)..

this worked for me.. i learned how on youtube. if ya cant understand just go to google. there are other ways.. i just don't know them..

Moto vu204 cellphone - cannot open or unlock ringtones

To get FREE ringtones you need a Usb Cable for your phone and you need 2 software programs.

1. Motorola Update software
2. P2K Commander.

First run the MSU then the P2K. browse the directories and find your other ringtones and place what mp3s you want there.

Next you must delete a few files that determine what sounds you paid for and which you didn't. They are Mytone.DB and 2 others I dont recall atm. Once these are deleted you reboot your phone and those 3 files regenerate themselves but NOW THEY DO NOT KNOW WHICH FILES TO BLOCK. So now all your music you put on the phone can be set as a ringtone. Its a learning curve to do this just be patient and read up on it. GL

P2k commander

If P2kCommander dont recognize your phone please make sure to check the following:
  1. Make sure you have the latest version of P2k Commander software. It can be found here.
  2. You must be running at least one of the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, microsoft Windows 2000, or microsoft Windows XP SP1. There have been some successes with microsoft Windows Vista.
  3. You may need the Microsoft USB patches installed, although not required if you are running Microsoft Windows XP SP2. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?amp;amp;displaylang=en&familyid=733dd867-56a0-4956-b7fe-e85b688b7f86&displaylang=en )
  4. The P2kdrivers must be installed, which are bundled with P2K Commander after version 2.8.
  5. If your phone is connected by USB and P2kCommander is started, try to connect your phone. The new devices must be appear and you must be point the p2kdrivers path to load it on your system.
  6. "hidden folders" which are not shown in filelist but are shown when viewing the phone: These are empty folders.
  7. P2kfilesystem does not show empty folder, but the phone does. To remove recreate the folder and delete it.(the folder not the files)
