2 issues- the light filter on one of the lcd panels is burnt due to excessive dust and heat. and one of the lcd panels is shot. time to replace the entire optical engine, unless you can get the prism assembly. otherwise, replace the projector. if you do, remember to keep it clean.

"clean and reset filter" alert is displayed even

You can reset the "Filter Time" on your projector and it will clear this error out of the system.

1) Clean Filter
2) Turn the power on
3) Hit the Menu button
4) Once the menu appears choose "Options"
5) Choose "Filter Time"
7) While the time is displayed hold the "Reset" button on the remote for 3 seconds
8) The "Reset" menu will pop-up and choose reset.

That should take care of it.

The projector shows slides as purple but computer has the right colours?

Check your cable...you are missing one of the primary colors. you could have a bent/broken pin on either the projector port or the cable or laptop port. this would be the VGA connection.

My blues are green on my projector. do I need a new bulb?

reset the settings to factory default and check the lamp for bulges, black spots, fogging or flaking, and replace as necessary. if not better, you may have a fried polarizer on one of the lcd panels due to excessive dust and heat. that will need to be replaced, buy you may have to replace the entire optical engine, as many manufacturers don't sell the individual parts.

Dvd player to projector

Yes please.
You can connect it either thru the RCA Composite output(yellow) of your DVD or thru the S-Video or even thru the component out(YPbPR) connections. In the component out you would require three RCA cables and would give you the best possible picture.
