Question about Optoma DS303 DLP Projector

1 Answer

The amber led labeled lamp lit up on my optoma ds303 and the picture disappeared. I replaced the original lamp with an after market lamp I purchased online. It worked for 2hours or so then the amber lamp led lit up again and the picture was gone. At this time if I power the projector down for a while and then reconnect the power cord, the power light will start blinking and it will turn on without me hitting the power button. It may work for 20min or so, then I'm back at square one.

The reason that it turns on without hitting the power button is that it thinks it's still in cooldown mode. while it's on, check the lamp hours through the menu. if it's close to 2000 hours (or the inside of the lamp is blackened or bulging), replace it. after market lamps never seem to last that long. if the fans stay on when the lamp goes off, it could also be the colorwheel. listen for chirping. if it chirps, it's the colorwheel.

Hi Genaro,

Blue led light lit solid and yellow led light flashes is an initial attempt of the set to re-light the lamp.Red led flashes and yellow led light solid means that the lamp won't light up that's why it only has sound without the picture.
Since you've replaced the lamp twice and still the symptoms persist, I suspected that the fault came from the ballast board and not on the lamp itself. If the ballast board gone to malfunction, there's no high voltage will produce to light up the lamp and will sensed by the processor and trigger the error code (Flashes/solid led light with color code).

To verify whether the ballast board is faulty or not, check if the lamp will lit by looking through the lamp door louvers at the rear of the cabinet upon turning on the set.
Please let me know what you will find to assist you further.

Check the voltage at the lamp input from the ballast after connecting projector to mains supply. (Warning: Do not switch on the projector while checking the voltage. It will damage your multimeter) The lamp connection shall be removed. If the voltage is around 60 to 80 volts AC, then your ballast is OK. Check for fragments inside the lamp.

I replaced the bulb on my optoma ep1691 projector but the picture still goes out and the red lamp light lights up. I reset and confirmed the reset via the menu. How can I resolve this issue?

Hi,
It seems OEM lamp that was replaced in projector is not good, please return this lamp and ask another lamp to solve projector problem. Projector seems fine and has no issue, it is replacement low priced lamp that is causing problem.
I would recommend to buy original lamp from Optoma Support.
Thanks.

My Optoma HD72 projector operates for about 1 minute and then shuts off. I kept my old bulb around "just in case", I've replaced the bulb with the old one and have the same problem.

The problem is not over-heating. The Optoma HD72 has a known problem that Optoma won't advertise. The lamp driver is faulty. They simply have to replace the lamp driver. I purchased a spare lamp with my original purchase. I had the exact same experience as you at around 1200 hours on the lamp in ECO mode. I used the spare lamp. Same thing happened at about 1200 hours. I had a friend at Optoma. he confided to me the problem. I sent it in and they replaced the lamp driver at no charge. I got another 800 hours out of the first lamp and am now using my second lamp and have about 600 hours on it. The pic quality is so good with this projector (used Digital Video Essentials to calibrate) that I'll just order a bare lamp or two and use the existing lamp housings when I need a new bulb.

I have an Optoma DS303 Projector and it won't turn on. The power button flashes when i hold it down.

How old is the projector?? First, unplug the unit and check the lamp--A healthy lamp should have clear glass--not darkened, smoky, bulged, or blistered. Sometimes, by simply unplugging and then re-inserting the lamp, you cause the contacts to get a better connection, thereby making ignition easier. This is the simple stuff. If you have another, known-good lamp, insert it and try to get the projector to fire up. If this fails, or if after installing the original lamp the unit still won't kick on, the problem will need to be addressed by a service facility. When trying to turn on, you hear a "clicking" or small snapping sound but no lamp ignition, that is a symptom of a bad ballast(the circuit that ignites and keeps the lamp burning). Also, no sound may be heard. You can also look into the main lens and try to see small "lightning" flashes as the ballast tries to ignite the bulb. Usually, the ballast will try to ignite the lamp several times and, failing that, the unit is programmed to shut down.Hope I helped you.---Rick

Optoma hd72 bulb turning off

This is NOT a bulb problem unless your "lamp" LED is lit, which you say it is not. Many people have reported this problem with the Optoma 72. You can send it in for warranty service (it has a 2-year warranty) to get the lamp controller chip replaced, but the problem may recur. Optoma does not appear to have a permanent solution to this problem. My projector has broken exactly like yours TWICE in a year. I haven't even needed to replace the original bulb yet. :(
