Hello, Just to let you know, that they can get expensive to repair, lets say for instance, the compressor is a burn out. The cost of the recovery of the old freon, now that the E.P.A. has stepped in making all service Tech's working on anything that contains freon to be Certified and to carry this card with us. It just depends on the problem. Condenser fan motor, Evap. motor, defrost timer, it just depends. If you're freezer is not working at all and you have power to it, no breakers are off, I would make some calls to get estimates on having a tech come out to have a look. Watch the charges, such as the cost of the trip charge out, some places stopped doing this as I have due to our economy to save my customers, so check this. Consider the age of you're Freezer, would it be worth it to you to spend an hour to have them diagnose the problem? If its the compressor, it would be wise to think about upgrading, just depending on the age.Condenser fan motor and the Evaporator motor, thermostat, defrost timer, Ect.would be worth if the price of parts were good.Keep in mind, that they buy at whosale and can mark up the price's above 110%! I am just giving you some food for thought, the age of the unit, and it shouldn't take them more than 45min. to an hour to find this problem. At that time, you can compare this to the cost, the repair warranty they will give you and so on.Just take all of this into consideration, as I have seen this so many times in my line of work, that if the unit is more than lets say 12 years of age, and say the compressor dies, replace the Freezer as what will fail next? I am sorry for the long explanation, I just want you to understand, and want to save you those hard earned dollars in our time of need. Good Luck, and Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS Please keep me updated, as I would like to know the out come.I hope I have been of some help to you.

Plugged in freezer after standing 3 days unplugged compressor ino

That sizzling noise i suspect is either the compressor overload or start capacitor burning out .
You need to look in connection box on side of compressor, the relay should just pull off once cover is off.BEWARE even with the freezer unplugged there is a charged capacitor connected inside this box and will give you a nasty shock should you touch it! with insulated pliers touch all terminals to each other and earth to make sure capacitor is discharged .You should be able to get astart capacitor and overload from local repair shop there not expensive if this doesn't fix it the compressor is possibly locked up and will need replacing

Used freezer won't freeze food

If the compressor is running and it still doesn't cool, it is probably leaking freon. If this is a frostless model there are other minor things that can go wrong. This usually shows up on a freezer that has recently been moved or hasn't been used for a time. This is almost never worth fixing as even if you fix it you can't ever completely trust it again. The food inside is usually worth far more than the freezer and most homeowners insurance doesn't cover it anyway.
