Question about Toshiba Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Toshiba 57H83, 5 years old. there is a green cast to the picture. This is most obvious when the station is changed and the black is a greenish black and not a sharp color. All the colors are seen, but the contrast and sharpness are not as they should be.

This would be a convergence issue an nothing more then that the convergence needs to be realigned with these old projection systems the SDK IC's do wear from time to time sometime to where the just go and you got a total mis alighend screen "seeing double or triple" The green cast is evident in the wear on the convergence now this can be repaired to look like new but will it last another 5- 10 years I doubt it. The repair might last another year at the most depending on how many hours your putting on the set.

Now you looking at $85 just to have someone come out and TRY to adjust it now if it does not adjust or i does they still walk with the $85 bucks. No one will do work for free unless you have a friend in the business even in that he has to cut his losses.

If the SDK needs to be changed out your looking at $150 just for the placement of those as its hard soldering and de-soldering a convergence board. You might walk with $250 out of your pocket for the total repair you might have to dig further who knows?

I am only telling you that this seems to be a issue with convergence now when the tech gets there and discovers maybe a irregular in the power supply or even fly back do not be shocked but I doubt it since you just seeing green.

Thanks I try to work hard on all my solutions to get you a answer if you can return the favor and click the Accept button I would be more then grateful.

Green tint on tv and picture randomly cuts out

Sounds like a Sony, if it uses a lamp the green cast is most likely the optical light engine in the set---major part.

Too much green color

Problem solved. I tried playing DVD and the TV picture was fine. So I double-checked cable wires from cable box - one of the wires was loose (obviously it was the red color input). After tightening, the TV picture is good as new.

Loss of colour

With the set being 12 years old, I'm sure the picture tube is near the end of its useful life. You probably have a defective semiconductor, either an IC or transistor that has gone up giving you no color, but with the green picture, it is not likely worth repair.

Constant changes in picture colors.

It is a 20" TV set and will most likly, im afraid to tell you, cost more to fix then it is worth. The problem is a bad Picture tube, an intermittant CRT socket or the video jungle IC is intermittant. If you want to invest in an estimate, check out first if it will go towards the repair, as then maybe you can get it fixed at a good price, as long as the picture tube is not the problem Good Luck
