Hi Kip,

On the right side of the number keypad on a Mac Laptop, there is a 'Clear' button above the number 7. Press Shift + Clear to turn Num Lock on. Press that again to turn it off. If the keyboard doesn't have a number pad, press F6.

My laptop is only typing the numbers that appear on the letter keys. For example when I hit the letter J, it types a number 1. When I hit the letter k key, it types a 2, etc. How do I get it to go back...

Usually you have to hold the "Fn" key to get to these. Look for a "NumLock" key to turn this off. You may need to use the "Fn" key to select numlock.

When i type a-key on the keyboard then a1 appears on the screen in Dell inspiron 1525 laptop, please assist me to get resolve this problem

Most likely you have your numlock key turned on by mistake. Look on your computer and see if there is a light with a padlock and a number in the padlock. It is probably lit up. Now look for a key on your keyboard called "numlock" and press the key once. See if the light goes off. When you have the numlock key on some of the letter keys will work as numbers like a calculator. When you turn it off the keys are back to letters.

Keyboard malfunctioning

Are you saying it will stay on even if you press NumLock to turn it off? That's weird. But on most computers NumLock automatically comes on can change this in the computers BIOS. Try pressing F1 as your computer is booting up to change this option.

check out this will solve your problem.

Want numlock on as default at start up

There is an option in the BIOS setup to turn the NUMLOCK ON when the computer boots. If you know how to get to the BIOS, it should be easy to find on one of the menus.

If you do not know how to get into the BIOS, watch when the computer first begins booting. It should say something like, "For Setup Press <Whatever Key>". You only have a few seconds to press the stated key. Once in, search for the option for NUMLOCK. When you are done look for "Save and Exit".

well, I have the same problem too, but finally I can fix this problem.
It's just very simple.
Can you see the OFFICE button, right on top of the F8 button and also on top of numlock green light (who is turned on if the numlock or caps lock active) ? Just press that button, then press the numlock button. Gotcha! The numlock light is turned on, right? Try to type some number on notepad with right side of your keyboard now.
Is this information helpful? Thanks before

Number pad

There is a Fn key on the bottom left of the keyboard and a num lock key at the top right of the keyboard (depending on the model) Hold the Fn key and then press the num lock key, that should fix your problem.
