Question about Pc America Restaurant Pro Express

I am trying to set up my First Data FD100 credit card machine to work with RPE, but am having problems doing so.

I don't think this machine will work within RPE. You should verify this with the vendor that sold you RPE. However, you can set RPE to manually accept credit cards and swipe them seperately with the FD100. Everything will report OK, it just takes more steps and more receipt slips.

Or you can set RPE to process with First Data and buy an MSR to attach to PC to swipe cards. Much quicker process and only RPE receipt(s).

if you could check the paper that you are using. make sure thermal. also scratch the paper, if a black mark appears this is the side that goes down in the paper holder, if you don't see a black line you don't have thermal paper. also make sure it is credit card machine and not adding machine paper. if you have another roll try that one. if persist. make sure the paper is hitting the thermal reader. there is no ink

First data fd100 won't power up


  1. Make sure you push that tip fully into the side of the FD100 with your thumb (these are notorious for falling out- that's why they designed a clip on the back corner)
  2. Try a different power source (outlet)/surge protector (make sure its switch is ON/wall plug (different names for same objective) You'd be surprised how many of those can be faulty-EVEN IF other things are working that are connected to the same one, THAT particular one may be faulty, or it could be barely too much load, etc. etc.!!!.Very difficult to prove or trace this type of fault.
  3. Try a different power supply/ power cord/transformer (different names for same part) They can go out, sometimes from a surge, lighting, etc.
  4. If none of that solves it, I am afraid you may have a dead FD100 :(

check the power cables and the power source, make sure all are secure in place.
the terminal needs a power source that came with it, make sure you are using that one.
call msp if you need additional power supply

Mike,
Although it is too late, never let a company make changes to another company's software without the other company's OK. You should be able to reverse any changes they made. If they loaded a patch to RPE, it will be listed in programs as CRE something. Uninstall it. Thyis will take you back to your original RPE setup. If they made changes to your RPE setup, a restore of a recent backup will get you back to square one. if you need more in depth help, send me an email.

Are you using a processing company listed by PCAmerica? If not, this could be the problem. If you are, try reloading RPE. Be sure to backup your database before doing this.

Need to do a credit card refund for RPE


If you can recall invoice and you have not yet batched/settled your cards, just void the invoice and it will refund the amount to the card.

If you have settled the cards and cannot recall invoice, ring up a sale to a non-inventory item, do a price change to the negative amount of sale, and then charge this to the card. It will refund this amount to the card.

Make sure security settings will not let your employees ring up negative amounts or they could start refunding to their own card.

This is a thermal printer. There is no ink. It uses heat to burn print on the paper. As long as paper is loaded correctly and spitting out, there is nothing you can do except get it repaired. Make sure you are using thermal paper and not a standard roll.

if you're using PCC, you should try to process directly through the PCC program, if that works, most likely the only thing you have to do is go in to RPE, then setup screen and set the directory where PCC is (usually this is active charge directory for payment server, or pcw for pccharge pro, they both work but i believe its only OFFICIALLY supported with payment server)
