Thanks for your help Darklord 1. I think I need a new CD-ROM. JJ
The first thing that we are going to check is to see if windows xp has the device disbled .. is so then reenable it
.1 Click start \ my computer
2.) Right click on local disc c and click properties
3.) slick hardware and see if your burner shows up there..
If it is there means windows recgonise it if not then it doesnt you can try the next step in any case
1.) click start then right click my computer and choose properties
2.) click the hardware tab, then choose device manager
3.) look at the tree view and find DVD\CD-Rom Drives
4.) click the + next to it and verify that your drive is there
If it is not then skip the next few steps
5.) right click on it and see if it says enable or disable,
If it says enable then click enable ,, if it says disable then proceed to net step..
OK SO ALL THE ABOVE FAILED THATS WHY YOU ARE READING THEN
1.) SHUT DOWN COMPUTER AND UNPLUG IT
2.) REMOVE THE SIDE PANEL
3.) ENSURE THAT THE CABLE (IDE AND POWER) connecting to the drive is in propperly..
4.) plug it back in and boot
IF THAT FAILS THEN YOUR DRIVE IS DEAD AND YOU WILL NEED TO BUY A NEW ONE...
LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS
