It wont play bluray or ps3 games - Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

laser reader is broke for bluray

The games are in bluray format. The ps3 has 3 different lasers (built into one) in the drive. When the bluray laser fails but not the others it will continue to play everything except bluray. You can fix this by getting a replacement laser (ebay etc) opening up the console and drive and swapping out the laser. This is fairly easy as its mainly screws, but there are a few cables to be delicate with. Here is a disassembly guide.

This may be a case of replacing the laser lens. If your console is out of warranty, take it to your local Game Stop, or somewhere that does Sony repair. PSR does Sony authorized repair, but it usually involves shipping. You can contact PSR at 877-777-3491, or email at [email protected]. Hope this was helpful

i think it is the bluray drive's lens.

thats because of a faulty blu ray lens/drive..please call sony asap and tell them..i had the same problem too..it would only play non bluray discs..hope u get it running soon!RFOM2 is coming!! regards!

Try to do a reset off all the settings to the default.
Re enter your network information and try again.
As far as reading games, most likely is the bluray diode that went out.
If it's still under warranty send it to Sony.

is it playing bluray discs? if not its a problem with the last download. It'll still play cd's ps2 games just not ps3 games or bluray, sorry to say but its a job for sony, call up your local help line(number can be found on the website) and they will arrange a replacement or to repair yours. There service is normally good. Hope this helps.
