Quick tips: Not draining the water out....

  1. Check for hose kinks or food plugging drain hose. Start at the drain port exit.
  2. Check the check valve and drain hose for debris.
  3. Check pump motor for reversing during the pump out make sure the dishwasher is pausing between the wash and drain cycles letting the pump/motor reverse for the drain cycle.
  4. Check timer for not letting the dishwasher pause. ( not all dishwashers )
  5. Check pump motor assembly for a drain solenoid, during the pump out make sure the solenoid makes that distinctive "clunk" noise
  6. If you have recently installed a new garbage disposal, check knock-out plug at connection.
  7. Check pump impeller for damage.
  8. Check that the water inlet valve isn't seeping fresh water into the dishwasher when off.

Hello. When a dishwasher will not drain, there are a few things that will need to be checked. Let's begin by removing the lower front panel of the dishwasher, you will need a #2 phillips head screw driver to remove the screws holding it. Once off, you will see the drain line leading from a small pump up and into the sink cabinet where it attaches to the drain [or the disposal if you have one under the sink].
Now let's do this:
1. Get some rags or a shallow pan and be ready to capture about two cups of water when you disconnect the drain line from the base of the dishwasher. remove the clamp at both ends so you can physically check the drain line to be sure it is clear of obstructions.
2. Remove the small pump that the drain line was attached to and look inside of it to be sure it is not partially blocked with debris.
3. If you have now found the blockage and removed it you can reassemble everything, problem solved. IF not read on.
4. If the motor isn't turning or working, the unit won't drain. First check to be sure you have power to the dishwasher. If the motor hums but doesn't turn, it may need to be replaced.
5. If everything seems ok with the motor, we must look to the timer, although it is unusual for this to be the problem. Part of what the timer does is control the motor and drain valve.
happy holiday, Regards, Joe

Remove the console panel with T15. then remove the cover from the main control board. top right of center of the main control you will see a removable fuse, either a black disc with a black and a black/w white strip connected. remove one wire from the thermal fuse and check for continuity. if it is open replace it. if it is not open call for service.

Periodic water leaking from Kenmore Elite K701

hello Adrian. I am suspicious that the standing drain pipe behind your machine may sometimes over flow. To find out, pack some dry newspaper around the drain hose where it enters the drain line behind the machine. If that newspaper gets wet you will know that the drain is sometimes overflowing. If that is the case, snake that drain or force a garden hose down it and run hot water thru it for ten minutes. J.

My 6 year old Kenmore Elite DW has started leaking and has a musty smell. The dishes are clean but food residue is left on the inside door and black gunk builds up on the bottom of the dishwasher.

Use a wet/dry shop vac to clean out the strainer and drain from the inside of your machine. A musty smell is a sure sign that food particles have clogged your drain BUT can also mean that your wash/spray heads have become clogged as well. Use a pipe cleaner on the spray heads and run water over the jets to make particles flow to the big hole in the center of your wash heads, then reassemble. Don't forget to put those little plastic looking rings back exactly the way you found them or your wash heads wont turn properly. They are usually made of teflon to lubricate the spray heads.

I have a kenmore elite model 16582200 built in

Item #959376(fuse) will need to be replaced.
Unplug the dishwasher.
Remove the 6 screws holding the control panel on.
The fuse is on the top right side of the control panel. It has 2 wires going to it,usually black and white.
Remove the wires and check the fuse with a meter set for continuity. No continuity is a bad fuse.
If the fuse checks OK use the meter on the micro door switch found under the door latch.
Remove the wires to the switch, touch the meter leads to the 2 terminals and manually push the switch button in. If no reading on the meter the door switch is bad..

Kenmore Elite: Model 66576962K601.

I had exact same issue. I've called Sears Maintenance. They had to change 2 pieces in UI: Timer KUDS02SRB10 and CONSOLE Assy. Cost 360$ pieces 130$ Job Charge 60$ taxes.
Now It works perfectly, but I bought 1100$ 3 years ago... Really expensive to keep it running.
