Question about Invacare Supply Group Invacare Pronto M91 Electric Wheelchair

1 Answer

My Dad's Invacare Pronto M91 power chair won't charge up. I swapped out the batteries, checked the fuses. The indicator light on the charger stays solid red. What's the next step?

First you have to make sure that all of your connections and connectors are secure. Then if you can get hold of a voltmeter you can check at the batteries terminals for a voltage that is slightly above the rated batterie voltage(while in charging mode) i.e; 13.5 volt for 12 volts batt.
Also disconnect the charger and measure the voltage at its terminal. In either case a low or no volt indication means that the charger is faulty. If this is the case look for a bad d.c cord and connector, you may also have bad solder joints inside the charger. If you`re handy with a soldering iron you can take the cover off and look around the d.c power cord connections and surrounding area.
Hope this will help. good luck

The red light on the transformer/Charger means the charger is bad. Sometimes it can also be battery harness wiring. Most often it is the charger that needs replaced.

How do I get my pronto m91 out of charging mode?

The M91 has an onboard charger. When unplugging the charger power cord from the wall outlet does not stop the chair from being in the charge mode, The charger has to be unplugged from the wheelchair wiring harness or main control module under the plastic body parts. The on-board chargers fail like this sometimes.

Is there fuses in the M91 Pronto Onboard charger

I had this exact same problem after having my M91 in the shop. The repair man said that the onboard charger was bad, so he sold me an offboard charger to charge through the arm. That didn't change anything. I finally took it apart myself and discovered that there was a cord leading from the onboard charger to the batteries that the repair person had left unplugged when he installed my new batteries.
What I'd thought was "fast draining" of the batteries was actually the batteries self-charging overnight (which they will do a little bit if you let them sit). Of course, this might not be your problem, but I'd say at least look at it as a possibility.

My m91 apears to be charging, then goes to solid green like it's fully charged. I turn it on to go and have full green on the meter, but it runs down fast. If I leave it on the charger too long, I get the...

Randal the problem sounds like a battery issue. If after charging you get a green light on the charger and the batteries run down quickly there is one or both of the batteries that is weak and cannot handle the load required by the motors. If Medicare paid for your chair contact the provider that sold you your chair and ask them to come replace the batteries. They should then bill Medicare for the batteries. Hope this helps

The Pronto will not keep a charge so I replaced the batteries. Now the red and green light flash while charging and there is no power to the chair

Mckinzie the lights will flash when charging because of the inhibit mode. After you unplug the charger and turn the chair on do you get any lights at all on the battery indicators? If not lift up the seat and check your battery cable connections the neg cable from the rear battery should be connectd to the positve side of the front battery and the rear neg should plug into the small connector of the other cable. Make sure then that the large double plug is connected to the double plug going to the controller. while the seat is up then turn the chair on to see if all the lights come on. If not check that all your connections at the battery posts are tight. Also check under the two red positve battery post covers the two fuse links to make sure they are not blown. If all of this checks out the chair should come on and operate correctly Hope this helps

One red light three green flash when turned on

Your chair has a motor problem. The code does not tell which side it is. Make sure both motors have the brakes in the drive position before turning on the chair. Also check that both motors are plugged into the main control module in the base of the chair.

Can't charge Pronto M91.

Hi Bob. Unfortunately in most cases this means that the batteries have gone so flat that they cannot be “revived”. The best thing to do is take the batteries to a local battery dealer and have them checked. You may need to replace them. Another possibility is that because the batteries are so flat, the charging circuit hit a wobbly trying to resuscitate them and popped a fuse button. A simple reset may help. Happy scooting. Batteries won't charge w/ on board charger-+

sounds like blown fuse which is at rear of chair. may be underneath rear cover. this fuse wont keep the chair from working, however, it will keep the charging from working.
