Have an acer aspire 5516 and cannot find any sound when playing a dvd

check your sound and audio devices. Or you can see icon tray on the right-bottom. See picture "speaker" on there? Double click it, and please be attention in that check in "Mute All". Don't get that check, if you wanna hear some sound after you are playing some DVD's in PowerDVD software.

My lap top has stopped playing audio

Right click the volume control - select open - this will open a larger volume control showing the volumes for each type of sound. Make sure none of the sliders are muted or low.

Dvd drive will read/play dvds but will not recognize a cd

go to safemode and try reading CDs in safemode. If your burner still can't read CDs then it's most likely bad. You could get an external usb burner.

Computer conflict with driver

Please go in device manager and then click on plus sign given and uninstall the dvd cd rom drive given.
Then click on the plus signe of IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and uninstall the secondory IDE channel or ATA channel i whichever is there,
Restart the system twice and then check.
If then also the issue is not resolved then try with any third party player like mediaplayer classic which could be downloaded from the net.

My new DVD player will play all CDs except the ones I burned on my laptop. Why is this and how can I get the DVD player to play those CDs? when I record a dvd on my lap top it will allow me to play it...

it,s one of 2 things.
1:) your recording MP3 to CD. Only recognised on a PC, or MP3 Player. The standard CD Format Is WAV.
If you burn with Nero. you should have a tickbox Which Says ( Normalise all audio Files )
2:) the disk is not finalised. Closed having written the T.O.C Table-Of Contents. this is to allow the reader viewing it, what is actually written on the disk.
