Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

I can't get my new Vista computer to connect to my wireless network

Ok, I have 3 computers and I have set the other 2 up (Win XP) to get an internet connection through my Linksys Wireless G Router. The Vista computer won't connect! When I click on "view available wireless networks" i can see my neighbors, but not mine! Reinstalled Linksys Network wizard software from the cd provided but still no luck. The funny thing is...all this was working last month before we had a storm that reset my router. Any ideas?

I experienced a similar problem with a Vista laptop a few weeks ago. There were no apparent problems, so I uninstalled the wireless network adapter from the Windows "device manager" and then let it automatically reinstall the wireless adapter when it rebooted. The local wireless network appeared about 5 minutes after the reboot and has been working ever since.

If that doesn't help, try removing the Linksys software from your computer and try the network adapter remove/reinstall again.

Hi,

I got your issue , If you need to check the ipaddress on the wired computer which is online. You need to check the ipaddress on the wired

So please follow these steps.

1. Click on start--> go to RUN --> in Run you type in "cmd" and click ok
(If you do not find RUN in the start search box type RUN and hit enter)
2.You will get a black screen(command prompt) , there type in "ipconfig" and hit enter
3.Please make a note of the ipaddress (or it says ip V4 ipaddress) , it will be like 192.168.2.2 /192.168.0.2 /192.168.1.5

Now move to your wireless computer

1. Click on start --> go to control panel
2. Go to network and sharing center (or network and internet connection in xp , then network connection)
3. In the left side click on manage network connection in vista
change adapter settings in win 7
4. If you find the wireless network connection, right click on it and go to properties
5. select Internet protocl TCP/IP(ver:4 in vista & Win 7) and click on properties
6. change it to use the following IP address
7. Then type ipaddress :192.168.2.50 (provided IPaddress in the wired comp is 192.168.2.x, if its diff change it accordingly)
subnetmask :255.255.255.0
Default gateway :192.168.2.1
8. Change to Use the following DNS server address
Preferred DNS :4.2.2.1 & alternate :4.2.2.2

Im sure this will work

Thanks & Regards,

From what I can tell you are using Mozilla Firefox Try using Internet Explorer if ip address id not valid it will tell you Internet Explorer cannot display webpage In order to renew ip address these are the steps you will want to take:
1. Ensure the equipment is connected correctly(Ethernet cord from modem to Internet port on router
2.Open network connections Win XP:Start/Run/Type ncpa.cpl
Vista/Win 7 Start/search bar/type ncpa.cpl
3.This will bring you to your network connections window
4.If using XP: Double click on wireless connection and hit the support tab. Ensure it is assigned by DHCP and the ip address should start with 192.
5. If Vista Or Windows 7 Right click on wireless conenction and hit properties. Uncheck version Internet Protocol Version 6
6. Click and Highlight internet protocol Version 4 and hit properties
7. ensure that it shows obtain ip address and obtain a dns server automatically
8.After go to Command Prompt (Win XP) Start/Run/Type CMD
Windows7/Vista:Start Start/All Programs/Accessories/Right click on command prompt and hit run as administrator then hit continue type in these commands.
1.netsh int ip reset reset.log
2.netsh int ip delete arpcache
3.netsh winsock reset
4.ipconfig /flushdns
9. Restart Computer hope this helps please rate thank you

I can't connect to my wireless netgear wndr3300 to XP

It seems that the wireless adapter on XP does not support WPA2 Security. Please enable WPA-PSK on the router and check if you are able to connect to the wireless network on the XP computer.

ENABLE WPA SECURITY

1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari) on a computer connected to the router.
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on Wireless Settings (under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Select security options as WPA-PSK. Enter a Password in the passphrase box. Apply the settings.
Configure XP computer:

1. Right click on My Computer icon and go to Manage.
2. Go to Services then go to Service and Applications.
3. Double click on Wireless Zero Configuration.
4. Change the Start Up Type to Automatic and click on Apply.
5. Click on Start and press OK to close the window.
6. Go to 'Control Panel', Click on Classic View in the left hand side menu and then open 'Network Connections'.
7. Right-click on the wireless Network Connection icon and select 'Properties'.
8. Go to the 'Wireless Networks' tab.
9. Check the option 'Use Windows to Configure this Wireless Connection' and click 'OK'.

Now please perform the following instructions to connect to the wireless network:
1. Go to 'Control Panel', Click on Classic View in the left hand side menu and then open 'Network Connections'.
2. Right-click on the wireless Network Connection icon and select 'Properties'.
3. Click on the 'wireless network' tab.
4. Under Preferred networks if you see any name in the list then highlight the name and click remove. Click OK.
5. Right-click on the wireless Network Connection icon and select 'View Available Networks'.
6. Look for the SSID (aka Network Name) of the Wireless router or access point.
4. Highlight thee SSID from the list that you want to connect to.
5. Type the security Key here and click on the 'Connect' button.
6. You should have successfully established a wireless network connection.

Wireless Router

Hi Sleepey,

I'm sorry to inform you that computers running Windows 98 or earlier cannot share a wireless network created on a computer running XP or Vista - I've tried it. The only way to get internet access on your Win 98 PC is to wire it to the router with an ethernet cable.

Also, make sure that, in Control Panel, your network connection (probably called "1394 Connection") is set to automatically acquire an IP address - here's how:
1) Right-click 1394 Connection and select Properties.
2) On the General Tab, under "This connection uses the following items," select Internet Protocol and click Properties.
3) Verify that the radio button next to Obtain an IP address automatically is checked.

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any futher assistance.

Kind regards,
H2H
