Question about Bob Mackie Tapco By Mackie LINK USB AUDIO INTERFACE LINKUSB Sound Card

1 Answer

I installed my mackie tapco link usb interface along with traction in my new laptop with windows vista home premium, and it installed fine, but the sound is jumpy and distorted...why? Sometimes when I play the sample tracks it sounds right, but as soon as I go to record something it gets all distorted. I was wondering if traction was compatible with windows vista, and what I would need to make it work right.

TapcoLINK help:
I found this on www.recording.org

Ok first thing. Unplug any USB devices not pertinent to recording when you want to record. Second, left click Start->right click Computer and select properties. Left click on Device Manager (left column). Look for your Tapco mixer and see if it has any red X or error message. It might be that it isn't completely installed correctly. Also in the Device Manager at the top, click View and select Show Hidden Devices. Look for something under "non plug and play devices" (I think) called Mackie Subunit or some garbage like that. I'm traveling so I don't have any Mackie gear to plug in to verify. Anyway, this is the bit that actually interfaces with the Windows sound in Vista and Win7. You may have to manually install the driver as Windows says it doesn't need one. Right click and select update driver.
-Browse my computer for driver software
-Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
-Click "Have Disk" and browse to whatever folder you dowloaded the Tapco drivers to.

You'll need an interface for your computer. An interface takes your microphone or mixer signal and transfers it via usb or firewire to the computer so the software recognizes the signal. There are many available and most come with software.

Try to find an interface that will include full-version software, not a demo. Some interfaces have issues with Vista, just check with your local store of choice to make sure it will work. One of my favorites is the Tapco Link.USB which includes a full-version of software with a pretty simple interface.

Good luck!
