I slammed the door on my kenmore elite now it won't start

Hi,
Well, don't blame yourself for slamming the door. They were made for it.
The most common cause of failure when this happens is the door switch and the door switch actuator.
Here is how you can test these parts:
1 Empty the dryer of clothes
2 Locate the door switch actuator. it will be over along the top edge of where the door closes, just inside the lip. There will be a little (3/8th inch wide) metal tab covered in plastic. The is the actuator the is mounted to the electrical door switch. The door switch is a valuable safety device that prevents children, pets and adults from loosing limbs and other things in a spinning dryer. DON'T BYPASS IT.
3 The tab may simply be broken off. If you can push the piece and hear a clicking sound, it means the switch is probably good but the tab is not.
4 To test this push the tab in or jam a ball point pen in there until it clicks, turn the dryer timer on and push the start button. It it comes on, that was the issue.
WARNING: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PUT YOU ARM INTO A SPINNING OPEN DRYER DOOR.
JUST DON'T DO IT. IT CAN RUIN YOUR DAY.
5 If you push the tab and get no click but a sort of springy action. The switch is broken.
Usually the switch replacement kit has both the metal tab and the switch.
That is usually it.
If you can supply me with the model number of the dryer, I can help you locate the right part and give some instruction on how to do it.
Hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

I have a whirlpool gold dryer. I can't keep the dryer door shut while clothes drying. it keeps popping open.

the problem is the door latch have a look and see if the door pin (plastic) still has both prongs they should look the same from side to side if they are then the tension wires in the doors clamp have come apart. if one side of the door pin has snapped off (most common problem from slamming door closed) replace the door pin

hope this helps
please take the time to rate this repair

Dryer wont start

Fixed this problem now. It was the door switch. For some reason maybe through slamming the door. The door switch had dislodged itself from it's locating hole. After bypassing the switch with a paper clip and then removing and checking the switch by hand it was found to be in full working order. Once this was re-installed the dryer worked fine. Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

Dryer was running, son took out clothes slammed door shut, now won't start. Any solutions!!

Hi. That's a pretty strong son you have there! But seriously folks.... Unplug the dryer. Check for loose connections (screws) at the latch and catch. Tighten up anything loose. If this doesn't get you up and running test the switch for proper operation with an electrical meter. Also check for loose wiring connections at the switch when you go to test the switch itself.

Dryer won't come on

Was it the dryer door he slammed shut or the house door? If it was the dryer door, then TheMobilian's answer is on the nose. If it was the house door that was slammed and it tripped the circuit breaker to your house, then you have something else entirely going on. Does your dryer have an electronic control panel (totally smooth surface), or does it have the knobs and buttons? What model number do you have?

Dryer won't start after I slammed the door

The door switch is probably in the next room somewhere.

Look in the hole around the edge of the dryer opening. There should be a switch in there. It's most likely been pushed back so the door post/actuator does not engage it.

Switch need to be put back in place.

Dryer won't start unless I slam the door

Not normal. Check door switch. As a test you can jump it out to see if the dryer works then. if that does not help then , I i would consider replacing the starter switch.
