The problem is in the switch assembly. This can be changed as a unit with all buttons. The switch assembly is not a servicable item, (the fix is to replace). Good Luck. I hope this is very helpful.

Hello. I can help you. The fan buttons are actually the switch that turns the fan on and off , and on at different speeds. Normally I would recommend that you purchase the part and replace it. The problem with your fan is that the original part is no longer available. You do have a couple of choices though which would make the fan serviceable for you. First of all, if you would be happy with just a fan that turned on and off you could by pass the buttons all together and just send power directly to the fan motor. It would then be either off or on at top speed. IF you would rather have multiple speeds you could by pass the buttons inside the assembly and add a dimmer switch in the cord. That would give you infinite choices for changing the speed. Either way, your fan would continue to give you years of service. The actual wiring is simple in this fan. Just remember that the current buttons are only a switch for the hot wire. So to bypass them you just cut the two wires that go to the buttons and wire them together. Then, on the cord you cut into one of the wires and add whatever kind of switch you choose, many choices are available at any hardware store. Regards, Joe

I can't see how you can get at the switch assembly. Is this possible
Yes, however switches are rusted and can't be released. We live right at the beach. Thanks again.
