Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Ice is forming around the ice maker where the ice dispenses through the opening in the door. I have taken out the ice drawer and washed it so that there is no more ice. I have also eliminated the ice around the opening to the door. After a while, the ice forms again. Is there a thawing mechanism on the door that prevents ice build-up around the ice maker?

Check and make sure that the flap that lets the ice out is shutting properly. When warm air enters the freezer door, it condensates then water freezes forming your ice. If this is your problem, they make a kit that replaces it. Good luck...

That's generally from an old, or improperly installed gasket, letting air in, which condenses and forms the ice.

Will not release ice and makes crushed ice, even when on cubed.

I believe in your case the ice maker part number WR30X10093 being electronic with the control board in the front is the problem. I think the control board behind the front cover of the ice maker may have corrosion and causing the ice maker to malfunction. You can try disconnecting the set of wires to the coil on the water control valve and see if the water stops or turn off the ice maker first and try disconnecting the coil wires later. It has to be the control board or the water control valve part number WR57X10032

Bottom of ice maker is frosted up & leads to food getting frost

Sounds like your freezer is pulling outside air into the freezer from the dispenser door or around the door seals. This could be a defrost problem beginning as this is moisture remaining inside the freezer compartment and not being taken out during defrost. So it may be a good idea to look into the back of the freezer and see if there is frost forming also on the rear wall. If yes you will need to manually defrost by unplugging the refrigerator and removing the rear panel in the back of freezer to expose the evaporator coil. If frozen over I want you to defrost with a hair dryer until we can have a look at the defrost heater below these coils. The heater in your model PSS26MRSS has glass around the heating elements and will be easy to see if the element is burned out. If burned out the defrost heater part number WR51X10055 and the defrost thermostat part number WR50X10068 should be replaced. Let me know if you are ready to begin or if this is helpful. If by chance these 2 parts look OK then we will need to look over the main control board for burn marks or signs of heat damage. I'll be here if you need me Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice is forming on my "not working" ice maker drawer

check that the water isn't over filling the ice mould or that water isn't escapeing down the back of the draw due to an allignment issue with the filler tube. worst case could possibly be a cracked ice mould.

Check the trap door where the ice drops through, it might be stuck in the open position, solenoid that operates the door may be bad.

Frost forming around ice dispenser inside side by side Fridge

The presence of frost indicates that the dispenser(ice) probrably isn't closing all the way once you get ice. This allows warm air to rise up, condense and form frost. In all likelihood the solenoid that controls the opening and closing is bad and needs to be replaced.

GE monorgram frost in the ice shute

Sounds like the ice door in the dispenser isn't closing properly or all the way which lets warm air in condensates then freezes.
