The heating element is controled by Thermal disks. Basically theese are preset thermastats that tell the heating element when to turn on and off. they can be checked with contuinity tester. Replacment is simple normally 2 screws hold them in. They will have 2 wires running to them. This page gives a discription and photo of them.

My asko dishwasher is putting a horrible film on everything including the inside of the washer

Hi,

Usually that condition is a result of the heating element either going bad or not working because the control is not activating it....

Open the dishwasher when it is most of the way through a cycle and check the water temperature... it should be at least 140F

If it is not then check for power at the element... that will tell you if the element is bad or if the control is bad...

Oven will not turn on. but stove top works fine. model#jgbs07pea2ww

A common problem is the heating element goes bad. I have had this happen and you can see a spot on the heating element which looks different from the rest of the element (a clue).

Many ovens have two heating elements. Upper and lower. Now I am no Julia Child, but I think bake turns on just the lower heating element? And broil turns on just the top heating element????

So I suppose you might have it on bake and it is not working. Might try broil and see if that works. If yes, then you are getting power through all the controls to the upper heating element, so good chance just the lower heating element is bad.

If you don't get heat to either the upper or lower heating element, then I would suspect the wiring or a control.

So far as the heating element, you should be able to remove it and using an ohm meter, get some sort of reading if it is good (I have no idea what though). Or open circuit if bad.

Also the insulation on older ranges can "melt" back exposing live wires! This is of course very dangerous and the wiring should only be replaced with high heat range wiring which I assume you could get at an appliance store?

Or the contacts on a control/switch could be bad. I would test this with a continuity tester or ohm meter.

Many appliances have a wiring diagram down low somewhere. Or might find it online.

Newly installed, new heater, won't heat, all wires are right with power to elements

If you are getting proper voltage to the element itself, and ther is no heat, the element is bad.

If there is power to the thermostat, but not the elemsnts themselves then try turning pushing the red reset button on the t-stat.

To confirm that the elemsnts are bad, shut off power, remove the wires from the element, check for continuity through the element. If there is none, it is bad.

But again, if there is proper voltage going into the element, and it is not heating, it is bad.

What voltage do you have going to the element itself?

We have a kenmore dryer model 11068934792 ser. mj3303110 -90 plus series we do not get any heat when it is running

It sounds like you have a bad heating element or thermal fuse. The fuse cannot be reset. If it is bad, then it will need replaced. Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't triop the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means that the element is bad and you will have to replace it. The elements are not repairable. Hope this helped.

Stove top burners and lower baking element not heating up

If all the elements are dead, check for blown fuses/tripped circuit breakers. There may be some in the range unit itself in addition to your electrical service panel. If one element is completely dead on all heat settings, the control is probably bad or there is a broken wire. If it is stuck on high for all control settings or is erratic, the control is bad - replacements are readily available and easily installed.
On ranges with push button heat selection, a pair of heating elements are switched in various combinations across 120 and/or 240. If some heat settings do not work, the most likely cause is that one of the heatings elements is burnt out although a bad switch is also possible. Kill power to the range and test the heating elements for continuity with resistance meter or multimeter.

For the lower baking element:
Again, check for blown fuses in the oven or tripped circuit breakers. The remove any wiring to the bottom element and test for resistance. If you get no reading (or a very high resistance) then your element is dead.

Not drying. heating element bad? easy to change?

Check the heating element to see if it is bad. If you just order a heating element for it, it will come with an element and a new control board. That should take care of your problem. Remember use only powder detergent in your machine. No tabs and no gel.
