HI. check the following areas for faults.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher will not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Control sector(This could be a timer module or control board)
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).



IF EQUIPPED, Check the drain solenoid.(Please disregard if your unit is not equipped with a drain valve)

The drain valve is typically near the motor although it can be located elsewhere. Look for a water hose running from the motor or underside of the tub. The hose should lead to the drain valve. The valve consists of the the gate arm mechanism and a solenoid (also called a coil). The gate arm allows the water to flow out of the dishwasher's tub through the drain valve. You should be able to move the gate arm up and down easily and smoothly. The gate arm also has two springs attached to it. If either of the springs is missing or damaged, they should be replaced.

The gate arm mechanism is engaged by the drain valve solenoid. The solenoid is connected by two wires. Label the wire placement on the solenoid before disconnecting the wires. The wires are connected with slip on connectors. Firmly pull the connector off of the solenoid's terminals (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.

Test the solenoid for resistance using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to roughly 40 ohms when the probes touch the terminals. If the reading is infinity or substantially different from 40 ohms, the solenoid should be replaced asap.

Washing machine won't drain

When your washing machine won't drain, it could be as simple as a kinked hose or as complicated as a faulty impeller on the pump. Overloading your washing machine can cause items to be swept into the space between the inner and outer tub, leading to clogs in the drain hose or pump. These clogs may be the reason for why your washing machine won't drain. Here are some steps to help you determine the problem and solution:

1. Pinched hose: Is the drain hose at the back of the washer been flattened or twisted in any area? A pinched hose could prevent the water from draining thoroughly. Gently straighten the hose, and make sure there is sufficient room between the back of the washing machine and the wall to prevent a repeat of the problem.

2. Clogged drain hose or pump:
Does the drum spin normally, but the washing machine won't drain the water? Sometimes a piece of clothing, money, fabric or other debris gets into the water between the inner and outer tub. It may then make its way into a drain hose or even into the pump itself. The farther into the machinery a clog goes, the trickier it can be to remove. Call a repair professional for help.

3. Faulty timer: Does your machine fill with water and begin agitating, but the cycle never advances far enough to allow the water to drain? The timer that controls the cycles may be broken. Arrange for washing machine repair service.

4. Worn or loose belts: Are clothes still soaked at the end of a wash, even though the washing machine appears to go through the spin and drain cycles? The timer that controls the cycles may be broken. This is a job for the pros.

5. Faulty or jammed internal impeller on pump: When the spin cycle starts, do you hear a humming noise? The internal impeller that moves the water through the drain pump may be faulty or jammed. A grinding or grating sound is almost always an indication of a coin, button or other object colliding with the impeller. Have a washing machine repair expert determine if the impeller is jammed and can be cleared, or if the pump needs to be replaced.

6. Pump failure: Is your washing machine more than 7 years old? Your pump may simply have worn out. Even if it sounds as though it is running, the pump may not be working well enough to draw the water out of the machine. Replacement parts for pumps are generally unavailable. A new pump may be necessary.

Tub not draining in washer

If it won't drain, something is plugging the drain system. Start from the hose end. Make sure the hose is open at the end. Try lowering the hose to almost floor level. Make sure you have a pail handy. The water from the tub will be higher than the hose end and the blockage might come squirting out. Put the hose back into the sink or drain pipe it was in.
If water comes out of the hose, but the washer still doesn't "drain," turn it on to a point in the cycle where it should be draining (spin cycle). Listen to hear if the pump is running. If it isn't, there might be something caught in the pump, the pump impellers (that push the water through the pump) might be stuck or broken. This will require a service person.
A third thing you can try if you feel really handy, is to figure out how to open the top of the washer. (Do this with the washer unplugged.) This is often a couple of spring clips near the front edge. Push in on these clips with a putty knife or something else thin, while lifting the top. Once you get it open, scoop out the water between the tubs if you want to. Other wise reach in between the tubs and find the drain hole where the water leaves the outer tub. This happened to me once and there was a child's sock in the hole. Pull out the blockage, reassemble the washer, plug it in and see if the pump check works.
Like I said, it's the outer tub, the pump or the drain hose usually. Good luck.

Hi,
Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.

Spin cycle If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component. Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician. Siphoning If the water that pumps from the machine goes right back into the machine after the spin cycle, it may be because your washer is siphoning the water from a laundry tub with a slow drain, back into the washer. Try to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is there something stuck in the drain?) Also, be sure the drain hose doesn't reach more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub. If it does, cut off the excess. Water-inlet valve Water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub--you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, replace the valve.

Water goes in and out, timer working but machine is not agitating

Sounds like your drain hose is too low. The drain must be higher than the tub so it won't run out before it gets full. If it is not to the cut off point before the water is as high as the drain the water will run out the drain and never get to the cut off point. It wont agitate untill the water level switch cuts off the water. Hope this will help.

Clothes wet after spin

Hi, if clothes are wet after spinning, check.......
Motor coupler To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning: If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine. If it isn't spinning--and your machine was produced by Whirlpool you may have a broken coupler. Many Whirlpool-made washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it completely.
