well. It would help to know your router brand and model #. I can help you find the instructions online so you know for sure what steps to take. now basically, most router should work right out of the box although you may want to do some configuration to 1. ensure only you or the people you want use the router and 2. back to 1 which is for security reasons. also post back what operating systems you are going to be working with (windows xp, vista, 7, linux??)

  1. Power on your computer. Remove contents from package if you havenot done so already. Locate the installation poster, a CD and anyinstructions.
  2. Step 2 Placethe router installation CD into your computer tray and start it up. Donot power on or connect the router to your computer at this point.
  3. Step 3 Follow the directions from the router CD that are displayed on your computer screen.

Thismay include typing in a series of numbers in your web browser addressbar that look like: http://192.168.1.1 (depending on the routermanufacturer).
  4. Step 4 Click the "next" button on the bottom when prompted as you complete the steps.

Connect the router to your modem and computer with the appropriate cables and power it on at the appropriate step (not before).

Theone from the computer (usually a color) goes into your networking jackin the back of your computer and the other (grey/white) goes into yourrouter in any of the jacks numbered 1-4. The color does not matter; itjust keeps you from getting the connections confused.

If you need a diagram or further assistance, look at the poster that came with your router.
  5. Step 5 Followany additional steps the on the install screens. And, test the routerto ensure it can access the Internet. This is the most importantinstallation step.
  6. Step 6 Setup the security as needed and print out the security key page and storein a safe place. Take note of any passwords or settings you place onthe router as well. This can include WEP or WPA key. You may wish toprint out this information for the router and keep in a safe place.
  7. Step 7 Remove the router install CD from the drive once you have completed all the steps.

Leavethe router powered on and attempt to access the Internet from yournotebook computer or other computers on your network. Double-clickInternet Explorer to get online.
  8. Step 8 Restartthe computer if prompted. Be sure all the lights are on your routerwhen it starts back up and you are able to access the Internet. If thisfunctions properly, your router is installed properly.

Can I use a wireless router connected to a PC to access my wireless network?

Yes you can.

Your high speed internet modem connects to the first ethernet jack on the rear of the router and your desktop PC to the second jack.

Folow the installation instructions that were packed with your router. Install the CD when prompted. The setup program will guide you through connecting to the internet through your router and enabling the wireless capabilities of the router to access your networked computers.

If you determine that this information was of assistance to you, please rate me on the FixYa website.

Is there an instruction layout showing me how to hook my router to my modem ? I need something with Pictures - we are not computer savy ..

What I have is not exactly a layout, but suggesting that pictures would help, click on this link here: Linksys Router Install Port Guide with Pictures
Same principle. Plug one end of the ethernet cable from your modem's ethernet port, then the other end goes to the port on your Linksys router with the yellow "Internet" sticker. The other ports are numberd 1-4. You may connect your computer directly from there.

Trying install belkin n150 router.setup router and cables as setup guide instructs.i run cd but programe will not find connection to router.i played with connections and it showes i use wan miniport...

Try the following:

1. Make sure your PC is connected to the router directly and the LAN ports are lighting up
2. Reset the router
3. Reset the network adapter on your PC (or just restart the PC)

This should ensure that you are connecting on the LAN port.

I am in India and have a MAcbook. I am trying to hook up a compex ADSL 2/2 to a BSNL telephone connection. The data light on the router does not light. The router works in the shop on a PC. Is this router...

Router is independent of the Operating System installed in the Computer. You have to configure the router according to your ISP (in this case BSNL). You can refer the User Guide of the Router for the instruction to configure the Router.

Or provide the model # of the Router so that I can give you the instruction to configure the Router.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant install a router

If you are installing the router between your ISPs modem and your PC, first you will need a ethernet network adpater that installs in your PC, you will need two crossover ethernet cables, one to install between the modem and the router and one between your network adapter and the router, once the cables are connected, turn everything on, first your ISPs modem, then the router and then the PC, once the PC is up, insert the CD that came with the router and follow its instructions and that should work!
