Question about Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 for PC

1 Answer

After a system recovery was performed on our HP Notebook PC we simply need to reinstall the norton antivirus program. I can probably do it following instructions on norton's website but since I'm here I may as well ask so I don't mess anything up.

If the norton was installed before the system recovery. I don't think you need to reinstall. You just need to perform an update. If you installed norton after the system recovery you would need to reinstall. Download from nortons website and install your product code.

Please help how to format pavilion dv4000 because effected virus. I hope you will help me, thank you. Paul

Before formatting or reinstalling windows try downloading ESET smart security 30 day trial and uninstalling your current antivirus.
http://www.eset.com/.
If you can install it do it. This will surely clean up your computer, if you see everything is fine then there will be no need to reinstall windows.
Remember that a complete windows install will make you loose everything!
From the Windows XP desktop, click Start , All Programs , and then one of the following options:
The following options are for HP computers. Compaq computers will have similar options (for example, Compaq Tools).
1. HP Tools , and then HP PC System Recovery .
2.Hewlett-Packard , hp pavilion pc tools , and hp pc system recovery .
3.PC Help & Tools , and then HP PC System Recovery .
should be ok.

System has a virus mbr invected by bloodhpund.mbr how do I delete this. I purchased Norton 2010 but it won't remopve the problem says it needs to be installed but can't get into system to install.

You're Acer probably has Rescue and Recovery™ installed. Rescue and Recovery is a suite of self-recovery tools to help you diagnose, get help, and recover your system.

When you set the Bloodhound heuristics in Norton AntiVirus to it's highest setting you probably ran a virus scan and saw a Norton AntiVirus alert that states that it's detected a potential threat, Bloodhound.MBR. But this is probably not a virus but the recovery software on your laptop.

Solution:

If you have IBM Rescue and Recovery and Norton AntiVirus Bloodhound heuristics are configured to the highest setting, Norton AntiVirus may alert you with a Bloodhound.MBR detection when you run a virus scan. To avoid this, configure your Bloodhound heuristics to the default setting.

To reset Bloodhound to the default setting
  1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus was installed as part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start one of those programs.
  2. Click Options.
If you see a submenu, then click Norton AntiVirus.
  3. Click Auto-Protect.
  4. Click Bloodhound.
  5. Click Default level of protection (recommended).
  6. Click OK
  7. Repeat steps 3-6 for Manual Scan.
In step 3, substitute Manual Scan for Auto-Protect.
  8. Exit Norton AntiVirus.

What the disadvantages of norton antivirus and what are the performance norton antivirus

Norton may slow down the performance of your computer, and it is a paid software what i think is instead of going with this you can download any of these free software (avg, avast or avaira) they all are free for one year and do the same thing what norton does without slowing down your computer.

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from the CD
  1. Insert the Norton AntiVirus CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If the installation program appears, then click Browse the CD
    • If the installation program does not appear, then double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, and then double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
  3. Double-click the MSI folder.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the WIN9x folder.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click the WINNT folder.
  5. Do one of the following:

  7. After the rollback has finished, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

If these steps do not fix the problem, then go on to the next section.

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from a downloaded version
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Find (or Search) > Files or Folders.

    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click Instmsi.exe.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.

Please Help If You Can!!!

First off, Norton will slow your computer drastically. I recommend using AVG. Now for the problem. This isn't a virus, this is a software malfunction or conflict. Either the Norton download glitched the system or had a conflict with another program, and the conflict glitched the system. Norton is notorious for conflicting with other similar programs, ie... antivirus, spyware, adware, etc... Either way, you will have to do a system repair with your recovery operating system disc. If the repair doesn't work, then you will need to reformat the hard drive, and install a new operating system.
