Hold the select and menu buttons until the apple logo shows up, then quickly switch to holding the select and play buttons, this should put it into "disk mode." plug into itunes and click restore.

My ipod classic 120gb black has scrambled file names and pictures. How can I back up my songs and solve the problem?

your songs and pix should be backed up in your itunes library. So that should not be a problem. First try erasing and restoring you ipod in your itunes library. Sometimes it takes a few time to do. You can also hard reboot your ipod by powering it up and holding the center button and the menu button at the same time until the screen goes black for a second and then the apple logo will show up ... once you erase or reboot it connect it to you itunes and reload the media you want on it .. . hope this helps

Tip

IPod Nano/Video/Touch Resetting

One day your using your iPod and all of a sudden, boom. It turns off and refuses to work or read by your computer.
You might get the apple logo, but thats where it ends. In this case, theres a few things that can probably bring you device back and kicking.

iPod Nano/Video(Classic)

6th Gen Nano

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above step did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

4th and 5th Gen Nano/Classic/Video (CLICK WHEEL VERSION)

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

In case the reset does not work, the alternative is to connect the device in disk mode and restoring it.

  1. Before placing the iPod into disk mode, you should verify that it is charged.
  2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears. zero77cool.jpg
  5. Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"
This will enable a black/white display. Restore it using iTunes.

If the above doesnt work, then Im afraid its time to repair your device.

Hi,

Solution 1) Press Hold/Sleep & hold buttons at same time for 20 seconds, This may fix you problem.

If problem is still alive follow solution 2

Solution 2) Press Hold/Sleep & hold buttons at same time for 10 sec. & then leave only Hold/Sleep button keep home button pressed & connect you ipod to PC, That means you have to bring your ipod in DFU mode (Recovery mode) Check out this video for getting ipod touch in DFU mode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bITIiGswjFI

It will ask you for restore. Accept Restore you ipod touch request by itune. Wait for few minutes while ipod being restored.

Hey :), id be happy to help. This problem has happened to my Ipod too. And yes, Im pretty sure it is normal. But Id recommend for you so soft reset your Ipod ( this will not remove any of your music or etc. of your Ipod). To do this just hold down the menu button and the center button at the same for 10 seconds , until the screen goes black and the apple logo shows up, then in a few seconds it will go back to your ipod's menu. Also make sure you have the latest updates for your Ipod, because these updates get rid of bugs/glitches on your Ipod. Thanks! and I hope this helps.

IPod not showing charge at all

Hello :). Id be happy to help. What I'd recommend for you to do is to soft reset your Ipod ( witch will not effect your music or etc. on it in any way). To do this you just have to hold down the menu button and the center button for 10 seconds, until the screen goes black and the apple logo shows up, then in a few seconds it will go back to you Ipod's menu. Although, so your problem never happens again, I'd recommend for you to download updates for your Ipod, these updates get rid of glitches and problems on your Ipod. Thanks :) and I hope this helps.

Ipod 80g problem

Hey Sader201,

If your iPod has been freezing on the Apple screen, you may wish to try resetting your iPod by doing the following:

1) Slide the "Hold" switch to "On," and then "Off" again.

2) Press and hold the "Menu" and "Select" buttons at the tame time until the Apple logo appears. This may take six to eight seconds to happen, and you may need to repeat this step.

Resetting your iPod should retain all of your music and other files, but please keep in mind that you may lose some of your customized menu settings.

If a reset does not resolve the problem, I would strongly suggest visiting Apple's support database for more information through the link I've provided below.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
