I need to clean the underside of the glass on my Canonscan Lide20

How on earth did the underside of the glass get dirty?

Ok, never mind that... in the end, it's NOT worth it. In the old days, you could have since scanners were as big as printers are today... but now they are definitely NOT designed for the consumer to service. The scanner is designed for accuracy, even if you were to get it all apart, the odds that you maintain the precision and integrity of the bulb, the track on which the bulb moves, etc, are very slim.

Suggestion... How is the printer you have holding up? If it's getting on in age, it may be a wise investment to purchase a dual scanner/printer (as long as you are spending the money).

Hope that helps :)

Sharp AL Series Copier L1 L-1 Error Code Cause and Solution

L1 or L1-00 indicates Scanner movement failure. The scanner is the part under the glass that lights up and moves back and forth. So if you lift up the feeder so you can see the glass, turn the machine off for a few seconds then back on. Watch the movement of the scanner. It should move right and inch or two then back to the left. If all goes well the copier should come to ready. Lay a piece of paper on the glass and press the print button to watch the scanner movement. If it binds up or does not scan correctly there are 2 possibilities.
1) your scanner lock is engaged and is preventing the scanner from moving. Check the clear plastic dial located under the far left upper side of the copier, near where the paper exits the machine. Make sure it is in the unlocked position.
2) Your scanner rail is dirty and dry. This rail can be seen under the glass towards the back of the copier. The scanner rides on this rail. It is very common for these to get dirty and for the grease to dry up causing the scanner to freeze up on the rail. The glass must be removed and the rail cleaned and lubricated.
Just power off then on the copier to reset.

These printers are notorious for having bad scanners. The fix will not last long. Replace the printer.

I have a HP Laserjet 3330 prints just fine but won't copy. It lights up will start to scan then stay on one side and lock up. I took it to a repair man he said that the ratchet is broke. What does that...

Ok, The scanners on these things rely on "seeing" if you will, the end of there travel across the glass. If they can't "see" where they are supposed to stop they try to keep going, reaching the end and causing the noise you describe. The noise is the toothed belt slipping on the pulley that drives it. There is no Ratchet.

Try this:
Should be two pieces of glass the big one and a smaller strip to the left.
Remove the strip I'm pretty sure it is one screw and a latch that slides to one side to remove.
Clean the glass.
Get the scanner assm. over to the opening. pretend to copy or by hand with power off.
Gently wipe the scanner bulbs and use a Qtip to clean the mirrors below as best you can.
At the end of the scanner assm. (Front of Machine) you will see a piece of glass kind of pointing at you. It looks like it shouldn't be there. Clean this it is the "EYEBALL"
this has worked for me.
Hope it Helps

The glass for the scanner broke, i need another one

Eek, that's a tough call.

I think the cheapest would be to take the measurements and have a local glass company cut it to size.

I've never seen a manufacturer offer replacement glass tops for their scanners. The model isn't listed, but it's probably going to be cheaper to either buy a new one or buy a broken one off ebay and take the glass out of it to use in yours.

All in one printer scanner

This is a very simple problem, but require much skill.

You must disassembly the scanner unit, remove any screw you see (you need an no. 2 phillips screwdriver) and very gently remove the upper side (with glass) from the rest of scanner unit. Please note that is several plastic fasteners to be disposed.

after you remove the glass (with a plastic frame) you get a small tissue of cotton and soaking with an windows cleaner solutions. Gently clean the BOTH surfaces of scanner glass.

For assembly follow the reverse procedure.

Beware to the glass, it has only 3 mm thickness. Don't broke!

Like I sad: simple problem, but require much skill. If you think is to difficult for you, please go to the service.

Scanner error message hp laserjet 3030

This problem has to do with the scanner mirror. You may hear a grinding sound, also. The reason it does this is because the scanner bulb cannot find 'home', so it keeps trying to find it. Well, it uses the mirrors to reflect on another object inside the scanner to tell it when to stop. The mirror on top of the right next to the scanner bulb may need to be cleaned. This works every time for me, except the same problem always comes back sooner or later.
how to clean-
1.unplug your scanner
2.notice the glass covering on the left side, it can be removed with a Phillips screwdriver. Unscrew the plastic surrounding the glass and then remove the glass covering.
3.Plug the scanner back in and wait for the scanner to move left and then unplug it before it starts moving to the right. Repeat this until scanner bulb is all the way on the left of the machine.
-an alternative method-
with the glass covering removed, use a pair of pliers to move the small belt that moves the scanner bulb. keep moving it until the scanner bulb is all the way on the left of the machine.
4.With the scanner bulb assembly in reach, grab a Q-tip and gently clean the mirror that is just to the right of the bulb. You might want a flashlight to see the dirt and dust.
5. Put the glass covering back on.
6. Plug in the scanner.
At first to me it seemed like it wouldn't work, but it does.
Hope it helps. Reply back if it does.
