Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
TI-89 has a backup battery. You should be able to take it out by lifting the panel for the regular batteries, its right above them. You'll need to unscrew it with a small Phillips head screw driver.Pull it out for few minutes and then turn it back ON. This would reset the memory and i am pretty positive, it would fix the problem.
If problem persists, let me know.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Pressing the green button and, the plus sign is to raise the contrast. Keep doing that process because, if the calculator comes on and, the contrast is to low you'll never know the calculator was ever on. You should also make sure the ports are clean and nothing inside them causing the calculator to short out.
Your only suppose the have all the batteries out for 5 minute but, I had a Ti 85 that I had the batteries out for 20 minutes and, it came on. Leave them out for 5 minutes at the start of this process.
Make sure the batteries are in correctly? The batteries alternate negative/positive, positive/ negative and so on. The first time I put the batteries in, I didn't have them in correctly. I know if it happen to me that anybody could make the same mistake. The small battery should have a plus sign facing up when it is installed properly. And of course, the calculator will never come on if the batteries aren't in correctly.
Setting up the computer and, calculator for new OS installation.
Reset the RAM first. If the calculator still won't turn on goto the next paragraph and, set of instructions. On the Ti89 family, press and hold the [2nd] [Left Arrow] and [Right Arrow] keys. then press and release the [ON] key. This should reinitialize the operating system, in which you should see a progress bar or, "Installation in Progress" displayed on the screen.
Hold down the APPS key and, take one AAA battery out of the calculator. Put the one AAA battery back in while still holding down the APPS key. Release the [APPS] key and, be ready to install the new OS v3.10, ASAP!!! The (older Ti89) may need to press [ALPHA] or, just when the calculator display's, "Press to install..." and, then they need to install the new OS, ASAP!!! You have to do this process in the right sequence because, the calculator will be destroyed if you do not.
You can either drag and, drop the new OS into the TI Connect icon (pictured below), on the desktop.
Or click, Start and open Programs, then open TI Tools, then open TI Connect, then open TI OSDownloader. Then just follow the instructions the software gives you. The best way is to drag and, drop the OS into the TI Connect icon because, you know your installing the latest OS. TI OSDownloader might not give you the latest OS version.
If this procedure doesn't work and, is still under "Warranty", I'd see if I could get a replacement from Texas Instruments. Even if out of "Warranty", I'd would still seek replacement with Texas Instruments.
If you have any question just post a comment and, I'll respond quickly.

Warning!!! If you do this procedure make sure that your computer and, calculator are connect. Use Ti Connect software and, make sure you can install the OS on the calculator without any interruption. At any time even at the very beginning of this process, if your computer or, calculator gets interrupted or you have a power failure during the installation of the OS, your calculator will be destroyed. So not attempt this procedure during a thunder storm.
You can use the Ti OS Downloader but, you will have no idea what OS is stored by the Ti OS Downloader. So, I suggest following my instructions and, installing the newest Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v.
Procedure to installing the newest Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v.
You can also get the latest copy of Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v by going to the Texas Instruments web site. You can get to that site instantly by clicking, "Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v." Once your at the Ti site click the Download Item, Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v. Next you can login or, click "continue as guest". I'd would click the "continue as guest". Once you have click, "continue as guest" the Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v. will download to you. Click, "SAVE". And then a folder will pop up. It is probably a folder that you download too. If so, you may want to change it and, "Save as" to this folder, "My Documents \ My TI Data \ Downloads". You can also go back and, download the Ti 89 Titanium guidebook too, if needed.
Link your computer and calculator with the USB cable or, Direct Black Link cable that came with the calculator.
Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [APPS] key, and while holding the [APPS] key, replace the battery and turn the unit on. On the older TI-89 you should see "Press I to install code...", and you should press the key to continue. But, on your Ti 89 titanium it should say, "Waiting to receive..." or, "Waiting to received OS...". Now you need to follow the instructions in the paragraph below to restore the calculator's operating system.
Next, drag the Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v. that you copied earlier to "My Documents \ My TI Data \ Downloads" out of that folder and, drop it in the "Ti Connect" icon on the desktop. Next the OS Downloader Warning will pop-up. Click, "OK" to continue and, the new OS will begin to install. The Ti Device window should pop up and, click on to the port where your Ti 89 Titanium is located, USB1 cable or Direct Black COM1. Just click, "Select" and, the OS will continue to download. Upon completion the newest Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.01v. will be installed.
