Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

Hi, I am trying to fix a Kenmore Elite Dryer Quiet Pak II (110.64982300). It runs but there is no heat. I thought the problem was caused by overheating due to a blocked vent, but my efforts to date are unsuccessful. I checked the input voltage: 220v. The heating element, TCO & Thrmostat all check out; more to the point, the leads to them measure 0 volts when they should read 220v. The Thermal fuse seemed to check out, but I replaced it anyway - it reads 0 ohms. I also replaced the Thermister, which currently read about 0.5v across the contacts when the machine is running. So, I suspect maybe it is a relay? I do not know how to gwt into the console to check. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, John

I measured the voltage at the dryer entry terminal block and it was 220v. I need to get into the console area to go further; how do I do that?

    Thank you,
    John

Q - My electric dryer runs but will not heat, what could stop my dryer from heating?
A - Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.
A ohm meter test for these parts is here.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.

Hello. Thanks for choosing Fixya! You appear to have a good understanding of your electric dryer which is pretty rare. Good for you. Let me see if I can help. As you know, when there is no heat you suspect these things: 1. The power coming to the house, 2. The double pole breaker or the fuses, the heating element [have you done a continuity test on that?], 3. the thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct, 4. The dryer plug, dryer cord, and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wires are attached to.
Visually inspect the plug, the cord and the block, do continuity, etc. Since the dryer can still tumble on partial power it can sometimes be a challenge to spot problems in these areas so the only recourse is to change one part at a time until you have replaced the culprit.
Hope this has helped you. Keep up the good work. Regards, Joe

Dryer doesn't work when I want it to

do you mean you changed out the dryer and the same thing is happening?if so it's not the dryer, either your vent line is clogged with lint and the dryer is cutting out from over heating and coming back on when it cools down or you have an electrical problem because there is no way your gonna have that same problem on two dryers, try running it with the vent line removed from the back of the dryer let me know about this
