Question about Cameras

1 Answer

Hi. I am from Kenya and own a canonpowershotA430: 4.0megapixels. My camera just stopped taking shots when there is light. If I am in a room and I take a shot with the flash on, the shot is superb. If I try to take shots outside, the images are not visible. they look ghostly with a gray screen front of the image

Inside your camera there is a small part that is called the CCD, it is what senses and amplifies an image to give you a digital picture, it has failed most likely or the tiny logic circuit that it send its signal to is defective, the problem here is that Canon doesn't sell parts to the public or any technical manuals to know how to install the parts, which by the way is difficult even to a professional, the camera has to go to a Canon factory authorized repair center, and yes I realize you are in Africa but none the less this is how it must be done, Canon also has an exchange program, contact them to get details.

Can i take video in a dark room

Unfortunately, the Sanyo Xacti PD2 only supports a flash for still shots and dose not have a lamp light for the video side of the camera. You'll have to provide your own source of light for good quality video in a dark setting.
Hope this helps.

Every picture I take indoors has a yellow tint. What can I do to stop this?

Sounds like a white balance problem caused by the background lighting in the room (flourescent or incandescent lights, the camera gets confused in compensating for them). Look in your camera's menus for "white balance" selection. Try setting the white balance to either fluorescent or incandescent lighting, and see if that corrects the problem.

Fmay nikon d40 flash in not working..

Hi,
You might be shooting with a higher ISO or in settings where the D40 meter finds enough light and doesn't activate the flash.

Try changing the ISO to a lower one, like ISO 200 and take some test shots indoors, in a darkened room.

OR, you might have the mode dial set to "no flash". That's the crossed out lighting-bolt symbol. Just set it for P or another mode and you're back in business.

Hope this helps

My camera ,power shot A580 will not take pictures ,sometimes the button won't press down to take the picture and sometimes it might take 1 or 2 pictures, then stops .What am I doing wrong? It's on auto and...

Does this happen in sunny outdoors or inside the room? If it happens inside the room, it could be because you have disabled the flash. If this fails to solve your problem, try increasing the ISO (sensitivity).

Indoor shots are out of focus at distances of 20 feet or more

Your auto-focus mechanism needs light to see the detail. Most flash units have a pre-flash(usually red) or if your not using flash, the camera has  a kind of red flash light that turns on to provide some light. And even that only reaches out so far.  in a darkened room, try pressing the shutter button down to see if it has this "focus illuminator" (you can usually figure out where it should be on the front of the camera). if it doesn't light in a darkened room, it's probably broken, which means 1 of three things: get it fixed, focus manually, turn on some lights

Yes you can download the user manual for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-w110. It is on Sonys website and in many lanuages. The easy way to find it is to Google search, Sony DSC w110 and look for a sony website link in the first few results. There is an option on the sony page to download the user manual.

Overexposed highlights

Normally the problem is simply that the pictures are slightly overexposed. Despite all the fancy names manufacturers stick on their metering systems, the camera doesn't know what you're taking a picture of. They basically strive to make the entire scene a medium gray. As a result, some highlights may be blown out, just as some shadows may drop out. Generally, dropped shadows are more acceptable than blown highlights.

If a picture is really important, bracket. Take one shot at the metered exposure, then another a stop under (and perhaps one a stop over, if you're feeling paranoid). It was common for a National Geographic photographer to spend an entire roll on one shot, trying different light angles and exposures. After all, film is far cheaper than air fare and hotel rooms.

One advantage of shooting digital is that you can see the results immediately, and correct for blown out highlights.

Film stuck in camera

First, replace the batteries, turn on the camera and try again. If that dose not work, you need to take the camera into a darkroom, a room that is 100% totally dark. The slightest light leak could fog your film. If you do not have a room in your house that you can make light tight during daylight, try doing this at night, Once you are in the darkroom, you will need to work by feel. Open the camera back and feel for the film magazine. If there is no film protruding, you are ok and can turn on the lights. If not, you need to pop the magazine out and use the protruding knob on the end to manually wind the film into the magazine while you alternately pull the film off the take-up spindle. Once all the film is in the magazine, you can turn on the lights.
