If the color wheel is bad you should be able to remove the lamp and see it---the lamp faces it---it is a small round wheel with colored segments--if any are missing or gone it is your problem.

The wheel is located inside the set's optical light engine--you have to remove the engine to replace it--there are several sites on the internet that have printed and VIDEO instructions for the replacement of the wheel--takes less than a hour to do--

If you Google the model number on the set you should be able to find the part number----if not let me know and I will try to find it for you.

Most of the color wheels for these range in price from 90-140 dollars and there are a lot of sellers on Ebay who sell them.

Samsung Big screen mod. HL-P6163W made load pop, then buzzing sound with screen going to black and white. Make buzzing sound and no picture when turned back on?

This set has a problem with the color wheel falling apart, which if one of the segments should fly off while the set was on it may sound like a loud pop, and the buzzing sound could be mechanical in nature with the wheel being off balance. If smoke appeared after the loud pop, then it could be a capacitor blowing in the power or video circuits. This model uses two different types of Color Wheel assemblies, either an L3 or a L6 and it would be listed on a white label on the Light Engines metal frame. Hope your solution is this easy.

There is a whining sound upon powering up my HL-P6163W which softens after about 5 minutes, but doesn't disappear completely. I think the source is either the color wheel or the cooling fan. How can I...

It the Colors wheel, cooling fan will shut down,if it start making noise to the fan, because the whole projection egine and the bulb link to it.The fan have to run a certain RPM to keep the tv running without problems. These colors wheels run 1000 RPM to start to give the tv colors and it make out Flexy glass and plastics. What ur opinion, who will give u the problems, first as parts wise.Ok any noises like whinning in the tv alway the colors wheel starting to buckle and warp.Getting worse make motor noises and briddles enough will brake and shatter it into ten of hundred of pieces.Who know, than inside what else will cause the rythum of the RMPS running of the tv,when u replaced it.

How to install a color wheel on a samsung hl-p6163w

To install a color wheel on HL-P6163w just: unplug set and remove rear cover. Remove the screws holding the plastic cover over the audio/video jacks. Remove the screws holding the large metal box (digital module) in place. Disconnect the plugs on right side of the digital module and disconnect the plugs remaining in your way of removing light engine, located on the metal sheet on right side of set. Remove the two screws that hold the light engine in place and slide towards you carefully so as to not stretch any remaining wires. Black, plastic cover that shields the color wheel has three screws that hold it in place, and you need a long screwdriver to reach them(matgnetic tip if possible). Once you remove the cover you will see the color wheel and the screws holding it in place. There are two plug connectors attaching it to the shielded DMD module and make sure to put the ribbon connector back on the right way. It has contacts on one side only. Carefully reconnect all plugs and if the plugs are identical you need not worry in which order you connect them. Make sure that you plug all connectors in and engage safety switch for lamp cover to test your work. It should be fairly easy but a bit time consuming for your first round with light engine servicing. Keep your distance from the ballast that runs the lamp while testing as it can pack a powerful punch. Good luck, Russmann.

Samsung dlp color issue

I just had a service tech out and replaced the color wheel. now i have the same issue with the color...the people all look blue. He told me that now the the digital board is bad. It's the board were all of the connections go. I'm not convinced, as I remember reading something about color settings needing to be adjusted after color wheel replacement.
