Try cleaning the unit with a cleaning cd you can purchase this at any store that sales movies or what not if that still does not work you may need to replace the unit itself or try fixing it by purchasing a optical laser replacment for this.

What is the settings for playback?


There are no specific settings for playback on this machine?
If the lazer does not read discs and the display shows NO DISC or UNKNOWN DISC then the lazer pick-up needs replacing.
I believe that the lazer pick-up for this LG recorder has been discontinued?

Did you try another disc?
Try other discs - preferably store bought. If it will not recognize store bought discs then you have a defective unit.

Is the "unknown" disc home made? could be that the homemade disc has not been created properly or is a type of disc that the unit cannot read.

Trying to copy VHS to Disc-Says"Unknown disc"


Hi,

how long have you been using the player and has it ever accept blank DVD-R discs in the past.

The problem might be as a result of weak laser (lens) or the blank discs inserted might not be compatible with player.

When the laser(lens) of a player becomes weak, it will not be able to read blank discs. It only takes a very strong laser to read/accept blank discs. If it happens that the laser (lens) is the cause of the problem, then it means you will need to replace the laser (lens) to a brand new one to be able to read blank disc. Though the player might be playing DVD and CD, note that blank disc is stronger when it comes to reading from the laser (lens), it requires sharper laser. I hope you understand this.

So, insert a CD into the player and observe if it will play.If it plays, then its obvious that your laser is very weak.

Concerning the incompatibility issue, I hope you are aware that there are various kinds of empty DVD discs such as DVD +, DVD -, DVD RW. Try any of this empty DVD discs as one of them as to be compatible with this DVD recorder.

Amongst the two topics discussed above, one has to be the cause of the problem. So its up to you to figure out which is the cause of the problem.

Unknown disk error when putting disk in player.


hello,

when the disc player shows unknown disc error, it simply implies that the lens of the player is weak and cannot read the disc.

the solution is for you to try to clean the lens with a lens cleaner or better still replace the lens.

After 2 years it now gives a no disc or unknown disc message.

This are some reasons for this :
the reading lens as become week so needs replacement .
2, disk compartment mechanism is not perfect sometime the lens is not brought to right possition to read disk , reasons worn out belts especially loading tray belt. change this belts .

After disc is loaded, it says "unknown disc."


Is it a pirated dvd? If it is, do you know some dvd players won't read pirated dvds? And if it isn't, then your dvd player may be dirty (the lens). For that you would have to buy a cleaning disk. You can get one at Radioshack. Or maybe what type of dvd type is it? Is it dvd-r, dvd-rw, or what? Some dvd players have trouble reading dvd-rw sometimes.

3 out of 10 will record 30-40 min and say DISK FULL..
2+ out of 10 I'll record 2- 1 hour shows then I'll
get a " disc unknown " error...
