Running very rich. how to adjust fuel and air screw

First of all are you running kerosene or diesel ? If you are using diesel, it does not burn as clean as kerosene which causes that burning rich smell. If you are going to use diesel, just use #1 diesel only but still may have a little rich smell. Don't use die red off road diesel. If you are using kerosene and want to check your air pressure on your pump, you will need a 10 lb. test gauge with a 1/8" NPT male pipe thread on the end of the gauge. There are 2 plugs on the back plate. Do not remove the upper plug with the hole in it. This is the adjustment screw for pressure. Clockwise increases pressure, counter clockwise decreases pressure. With the heater unplugged, remove the lower plug. Screw the test gauge in and start the heater. Check the pressure. Most are set between 5 1/2 and 6 lb. of pressure. Check your owners manual to see what your setting should be. If your pressure does not change, you have a worn pump and it would have to be repaired. Once you have the correct setting, unplug the heater, remove the gauge and install the plug back. If you feel that you are not qualified to perform this procedure, send it in to a local repair center.

My heater is a reddy heater 165,000btu. when i plug it up it will ignite, it will get a flame for about ten seconds and it shutdown. i recently replaced the ignitor because it broke and replace the fuel...

I would definitely stop burning off road diesel as it is dirty.Remove the top section of the heater and clean the fire eye with windex and a terry cloth rag, and run K1 kerosene it burns so much cleaner. Also make sure that fuel is not an issuecheck fuel filter, fuel lines and don't forget the screen in behind the nozzle.

Can you use diesel instead of kerosene in ready heaters?

No - diesel fuel is NOT the same as kerosene. Kerosene is #1, regular diesel is #2. They are not interchangeable.

Is it okay to burn Premium Diesel instead of Kero? Also, will I have a stronger odor problem with the premium instead of kero?

yes its ok, just make sure the air pressure pump is dialed in right. With the right air pressure the heater will perform at its best and burn as clean as it can. Its the slotted set screw (plastic usually) on the back next to the air filter. Turn it in 1/4 turn at a time till the nose cone is almost all red or orange in color. This will give you the cleanest burn. Then adjust doors/windows for fresh air as needed. Hope this helps

What will happen if I burn a diesel/ gas mix in a reddy heater 55000 multi fuel heater?

Hi, If the heater recommends kerosene or diesel only, and you mix gas into the situation, you will get an explosion and fire loosing not only the heater but most everything else.Unless the spec's say you can since it will use other fuels, gas would be one I would not use, mixed or not, like I say only if it says you can. At 70,000 B.T.U.s, as it says above, this Reddy heater burns hot anyway, and I don't want to put you in a dangerous situation by saying yes, go right ahead? So please check first, I would say no way. Good Luck, and Sincerely, Shastalaker7

I have a portable forced air heater Model R55A heater size 55,000/Hr can I use diesel fuel instead of kerosene?

You can, but prolonged use of diesel fuel will burn out the cone faster. Too hot. And it stinks alot worse than kerosene.

30'000 btu spark style will not lite

  1. clean the fuel filter
  2. clean the nozzle
  3. set the air pump pressure.
It should fire off, unless you have developed an air leak, worn nozzle, bad fan, or a motor that is not turning rpm's.
