Hi.

That connector is used to convert the RCA cables out to an 1/8 apple Ipod connector.

I think it is only used to connect an Ipod to your console.

To get 5.1 you need to connect to a surround system, to connect you can useone of the following cables:

• Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable • VGA HD AV cable • S-video AV cable

The best choice is probably using component cables.

After connecting configure following instructions here: How to configure analog or digital audio settings on your Xbox 360

    Hi.

I will have a look into the logitech z-5500 backpanel, but first I have to go offline for some time.

I will post back in about a couple of hours.

    Thanks.

    Hi.

    Try this:

Connect XBox to z-5500 using component cable (blue, gr, red).

Connect z-5500 to TV using HDMI out (or Scart on older TV).

That should allow to have 5.1 surround and HD video at same time.

    Hi.

The problem on Xbox is that surround audio and video are carried on the same cable.

You need to use component cable into the stereo 1-3 on the z5500, and from the z5500 HDMI out to TV/receiver input a hdmi cable , that will carry video.

The only problem would be if z5500 does not carry video out. In that case you connect XB0x to the receiver, and audio out from receiver to z5500. Or XBox to TV, and optical or analog audio out from TV to z5500.

    Regards.

Hi, sorry , I was confusing with a different unit. We answer many questions.

Your unit has only 6 channel (the three jacks), and coax digital audio or opt. digital audio.

Using the adapter you bought you will get sound, but it will not be surround, it will just be like connecting a regular analog stereo out to 5.1 speakers.
You can try it and see if you like the result.

It won't be better than using optical out.

You will have to connect the Xbox to a receiver, then get output to receiver .

Other solution is using audio out from TV to surround, and connecting XBox output to TV.

The only spare audio out from XBox, not carrying video along, is the optical digital audio (stereo) and the analog red white (RCA cables)

Use either optical out or the adapter you bought on the surround system and check the result.

Digital is not "better" than analog, it is a different thing.

An analog signal is continuous, while a digital signal is sampled and coded in bits and bytes.

To make an example, the sound you read using a deck on a vynil disk is analog, it is given by tip running on the disk surface and generating an continuous electiric inpulse.
Sound from a cd is digital. This is given by an analog sound sampled in bits that represent 0/1 codes. The digital sound is then put together by a computer that will sand again an analog signal to speakers (passive speakers are always analog).

The 5.1 will manage better a digital audio, but you do not have much connector options on this unit.

The choices are connecting through optical stereo in, or using the adapter to connect a regular 2xaudio channels from Xbox to a 5.1 connector. That will be distributed onto the 5.1 speakers, but won't be true native surround from XBox, you can get that only using component or HDMI, and with this surround system this is not possible because of panel limitations.

Try using your adapter and compare with sound from optical out. Keep the best configuration. The only other option is passing the signal through a receiver, or buying a bigger surround system.
Sound will still be good in both connections (digital optical, or analog with adapter).

Logitech harmony xbox 360 remote not communicating with 360.

There is a setting that may need to be changed within the Xbox 360, to allow it to be controlled by a Harmony Advanced Universal Remote.

To configure your Xbox 360 to respond to a Harmony Remote

  1. Using your original Xbox 360 controller, go into the Xbox Dashboard on the Xbox menu
  2. Select "Console Settings"
  3. Select "Remote Control"
  4. If "All channels" is selected, select "Xbox 360 Media Remote”. If "Xbox 360 Media Remote" is selected, then select "All channels"
Your Harmony remote should now control your Xbox 360

Not getting true surround sound

The only way to get Dolby 5.1 audio out of the Xbox will be via fiber optic cable from the Xbox to a Dolby Digital amplifier - which will output a decoded 5.1 signal to a 6 channel amplifier and 5 speakers and one sub-woofer. I doubt the Logitech speaker system has a Dolby 5.1 decoder built in with the amplifier for under $100, but I can't say for sure. If the Logitech has a an optical (or TOSLink) input, connect it to the Xbox and follow the instructions below.

To configure your audio settings, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Xbox 360 console without a disc in the disc tray.
  2. In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Console Settings.
  3. In the Console Settings area, select Audio.
  4. In the Audio Settings area, configure settings for analog output or digital output:
    • Analog output settings:
      • Dolby Pro Logic II: Select this setting for stereo systems or Dolby Pro Logic II-compatible systems.
      • Mono: Select this setting for systems that do not support stereo output. Note If you have connected to Xbox LIVE and downloaded any AutoUpdates, the Mono option will not be available.
    • Digital output settings:
      • Digital Stereo: Select this setting to use digital stereo output.
      • Dolby Digital 5.1: Select this setting to use Dolby Digital output.
      • Enable WMA Pro: Select this setting to enable WMA Pro pass-through if your receiver supports the WMA Pro format.
Note You must use one of the following cables to support digital output:
  • Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable
  • VGA HD AV cable
  • S-video AV cable
  • Advanced SCART AV cable
  • Japanese HDAV D-connector AV cable
