Re: HP LaserJet 9040mfp All-In-One... Problem
You first need to run a configuratin page from the
infromation menu on the printer. It will tell you what size and type
paper the printer thinks is in tray 2. If that does not match what is
actually in the tray (size) then you may have a issue with the paper
size switches on the right inside cavity of the paper tray. If the
switches, there is a samll pca board behind the black cover with the 3
metal springs. That board is the same for both trays 2 and 3 so you
could switch the boards to see if that is the issue. It could also be
as simple as the paper tray bar not aligned correctly and the easy way
is to switch trays 2 and 3 and see what happens. The type setting which
is inputed at the printer if not matching the job will cause the paper
to not be drawn unless that type is asked for. Example if someone
changed the type to preprinted and you do not ask for preprinted it
will never draw from that tray. Hope this helps. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=e n&cc=us&objectID=bpl12037

Normal default on HP is tray 2, however if you do not have that tray set for plain paper letter size the printer will default to whichever tray has letter plain paper installed. You should also check your print driver default settings to ensure that tray 2 is set as default tray.
HP Laser Jet 4100 HP Not pulling paper from Tray 2
The 4100 will look at tray 1 first then tray 2 If tray 1 is empty it will pull from tray 2 if the papersize matches the job otherwise back to tray 1 and ask for the paper.
Your machine likely thinks the paper in tray 2 is not the size you want. For instance you have LETTER in tray2 But the machine thinks it is legal.
The LJ 4100 detects the paper size in tray 2 automatically. If you print a configuration page:
MENU them INFORMATION then ITEM then CONFIGURATION PAGE then SELECT.
The page will print and show what size paper the machine thinks is in Tray 2 if it says LEGAL and you have LETTER you need to Check The Paper Backstop in TRAY 2.
The back stop sets the length of the paper if it is not at Letter (8 1/2 x 11) the machine will not detect LETTER. Even if it just a little bit off or between positions.
If it is set at LETTER then you may have bad switches in the machine that are operated by the tray.
Or the arms on the tray that operate the switches are not moving properly.
You will find the arms on the rt, side of the tray and feel them change position when you move the backstop.

Re: CP2025 cleaning at every possible moment
Talked to HP support and fixed mine by changing Settings/Paper Handling/Tray 2 Type to "Heavy 111-130g"
All paper handling settings as follows:
Default Paper Size:
Default Paper Type:
Tray 1 Size:
Tray 1 Type:
Tray 2 Size:
Tray 2 Type:
Paper Out Handling

Your printer supports a wide variety of paper sizes. See Media guidelines for illustrations of
proper paper orientation.
The printer determines the size paper loaded in the trays by the position of the paper guides.
Make sure you adjust the guides each time you change paper sizesYour printer can automatically sense when A4, letter, legal, executive media or B5, DL, and
#10 envelopes are loaded in tray1. To do this, the Auto Size Sense setting must be set to
On. Your printer default was set at the factory to either the US or Non-US default with the
Auto Size Sense setting On.To change the Auto Size Sense setting to Off:
1 Turn the printer off.
2 Press and hold the Go and Stop buttons and turn the printer on.
3 Release both buttons when Performing Self Test appears.
4 Press Menu> or <Menu, until the Tray 1 Auto Size message appears.
5 Press Select.
6 Press Menu> or <Menu, until Off appears on the display.
7 Press Select.
To return the Auto Size Sense setting to On, repeat steps 1 through 7 but, select On during
this issue is caused by your driver defaulting to letter and a4 paper being used set your default paper size to a4 in the driver and also set tray to a4 this should cure the problem
Regards AL "alstech"
Two possible solutions;
1) Check the settings in the printer driver for the default tray. The other user could very well have changed them and set tray 1 as the default tray.
2) Check the paper size settings in the paper tray. Pull tray 2 out and check the paper guides. Make sure the paper guide in the front and left of the paper tray are set for the correct media type (letter, legal, etc.)
The printer reads the tabs in the back of the papertray to identify the paper size. If someone moved it while loading paper the printer identifies another paper size and defaults into the tray that has the size of paper required to print.
Hope this solves your problem.
On printer check media/paper type tray 2 or 3 is plain and tray 2/3 is set for letter paper size too, via printer control panel. Also check under paper handling other options for tray 1, also on tray 2 and 3, I think there is a blue little round switch on left should be set as letter not custom.
Some paper types cannot be feed from anywhere else but tray1/bypass ie labels/laminate/card stock.
Check print driver on pc has tray 3 option installed and is not set as default to print to manual bypass/tray 1
light flashing cause printer wants paper type/size that it "thinks" it hasn't got in tray 2/3
