After you press the reset. Your laptop has to be physically connected to the router to configure it
Open your web browser, type in "192.168.1.1" and login using username and password. In "Basic setup" DHCP Server should be "Enabled" Enter "Domain name" Name your private network Set the starting IP address - Enter 10 ( any low number) Set time zone Save Settings ( button at bottom of page ) Under Advance Routing, set Operating mode as "Router" Save Settings WIRELESS TAB Wireless - set to MIXED Wireless network name - same as domain name Select a wireless channel (default is 6) Wireless SSID Broadcast - ENABLE Save Settings Wireless Security tab Select WEP Default transmit Key - select 1 Enter a pass phrase to generate a security code, click on Generate
WRITE DOWN THE PASSKEY ( aka, Security code) KEY 1 should have this PASSKEY entered. SAVE SETTINGS On your laptop, right click on the icon for the wireless on the task bar, select "View available networks"
Select your network, it should prompt you for the passkey, you will need to enter it twice
login to your router from your computer and change the wireless passkey. if you do not know how to do this then use the manual provided for the product and it will tell you how to connect to the router and change the passkey information under wireless.
If you forgot the password and username for the wireless router itself, there is a button either onthe back or bottom for resetting the router to default settings. This will clear everything stored and change all settings to factory after which the information is in your manual. If you don't have a manual, the manuals can be found easily by searching google.
If you forgot or do not know teh network / passkey of your wireless router you have to follow the following procedure to know the password (i am assuming that you have windows)
1. Connect your router directly to your computer (disconnect your cable / DSL internet from the router)
2. Use the Switch ports (ports marked 1 to 4 to connect to your computer / Do not use the internet port or WAN port in your router to connect to the computer)
3. Open command prompt (Start - Run - Type CMD and hit enter
4. Type IPCONFIG and hit enter. (not down the numbers next to Default gateway (it should be in the format 192.168.1.1 etc).
5. Type exit and hit enter
6. Open the internet explorer and type the default gateway you noted and hit enter
7. You should get a small popup asking for username & password - type
password (password) if this does not work (type admin for password also)
if this username and password does not work then you need to reset the router. (Please refer to the manual for this process)
8. if the username & password works you should be able to access the router page, then you need to click on wireless settings on the router page and then know or change your wireless passkey.

1st have clean all settings? a reset button is behind nerby the power connector.
2nd change wireless passkey(use WPA2 it´s safer) and very important the router password.
3rd reboot computer, then vista work well. (Its a Vista Defect, dont ask me why, but it´s true)
When you try to connect to a wireless network, it can be your router or can be any wireless network nearby your laptop. So if its your router's network you are unable to connect, you can call your router company, or can go to the router page and change the passkey for the wireless network. By going to the specific option or by running the setup wizard from there again. You can access the router page by ip of the router, i.e. default gateway of the PC.
If its not your router then you cant access it, until and unless you contact the owner of the network to give you the passkey.
If your network is showing multiple network, ensure which one is yours and if your network is working properly.

You can try accessing the router setup page or the user interface of it byu typing the http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar of the computer that is wired to the router and working to the internet, of you can also call linksys tech support so you don't need to reset the router because they can tell you how to change and check all the settings on your router this is the number 800-3267114, but if you want to reset the router just press and hold the reset button of it for 10 seconds,,,,
