Have you changed the bag and filter ?
This usually happens when the motor dosen't get enough air over the motor to keep it cool. Try dropping a coin thru the hose and see if it comes out the other end. If it dosen't, try pushing a broom handle thru the hose to move the blockage. NEVER use a coat hanger or anything that could damage the hose and there are electrical wires that run thru it. If you still have the problem, take your vac to the Aerus/Electrolux store.

Plush carpet setting on vaccuum?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC41 Animal's cleaner head is designed to self-adjust to different floor types - so you don't need to bend down to adjust a dial. You can see how this feature works in the video below. In addition to this, next to the red on/off switch you'll see a silver brush control switch, which allows you to turn off the brush bar for hard floors and delicate carpeting.

Carpet manufacturers sometimes recommend vacuuming certain types of carpeting with the brush bar turned off - we'd suggest checking directly with the manufacturer of your carpets to ensure you're cleaning them correctly.

If you'd like any further advice on using your DC41 Animal, please email us at and one of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible.

Best wishes,

After using for a while it gets hot and cuts out. So far it has done this twice and re-started after cooling down.

The cutting out is, in a way, a good thing. Most vaccuum cleaners have a thremal cutout, so if the cleaner overheats it cuts out until a safe temperature is reached to save the motor from damage.

The question here is why is the motor overheating. There are only 2 possibilities:

1: The motor its self is failing and windings in the motor are burning out, causing the overheat. If this is happening, then the overheat will probably be accompanied by much louder noise from the motor that you are used to and possibly the smell of burning emectrical equipment. If this is happening then you should stop using the cleaner right away. Generally the cost of a replacement motor (Unless the appliance is under warranty of course) is more than the residual value of the vaccuum cleaner.

2: The motor is overheating because it is being overstrained. Possible causes for this are:
Dust filters on the machine are clogged (Bagless machines typically have at least 2 filters, one on the exit airflow from the motor and another somewhere around the top of the cylinder. In a Dyson for instance, there is a foam filter in a clip open housing directly above the dust container.

Clean, wash or replace the filters as per the manufacturer's instructions.
If it has a bag, then the pores of the bag may be blocked - swap out the bag.
If it is an upright with a brush, ensure that the brush is turning freely
Ensure that all pipes are free from obstructions, pay particular attention on upright cleaners, to the pipe that leads from the beater brush housing to the waste dust collection

My bissell power force bagless model 6594-w vaccuum is not sucking up when vaccuuming but if i use the hose it works

Remove the bottom plate that covers the brush assembly and check the air passage that goes out where the vacuum is jointed between the vertical parts and the sweeper head. Look for any clog in that area. A bent hook on the end of a piece of coat hanger wire is a good tool for cleaning clogs. Hope this helps!

Stops after a few mins of use

You are experiencing a thermal cut-off - caused by a blockage. The machine turns itself off before it overheats. You will be able to turn it on again after 30 mins to an hour after it has cooled down. Call the Dyson helpline to do a full troubleshoot to find the blockage.

Hoover U5468-900 WindTunnel Supreme suction is suddenly poor

The other possibility is there is a blockage in the foot. these models have dual channel air flow (windtunnel) and become blocked when not cleaned depending on use. under the roller there is a cavity that can be removed for cleaning. a hot motor can be caused by poor air flow.

Beater bar brush stopped working...

Does the power head motor stop, or does the brush roll stop. If it is the brush roll stopping, replace the belt and/or the brush roll. If it is the motor, you may need to clean out around the motor, it may not be getting enough air to cool causing it to overheat and stopping. That the brush roll plate off, take out the screw, and the top will come off, then you can check to see if cleaning is the answer, if not, the motor may be bad.
