I have a 10mb broadband server connection to a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P with Pentium 4 Processor, with CPU of 3.4GHz and 2GB of RAM. It runs off Windows P but i am having problems running smoothly the downloaded programmes on BBC I Player, amongst other video channels, ie it sticks and runs behind the audio although initially when first started it is okay ie plays normally but then stutters. Would appreciate advice as to how to correct this.

Thank you, this has helped but i think there is something else as the origin of the problem, to be honest it is mainly my BBC I Player that is stuttering when playback is happening. This happens with either streaming or after downloading of the file and playing it. I have however, just played back some avi and mpegs of video files downloaded elsewhere and they play fine. Thus it is not an issue across the board. Would appreciate further advice as to how to sort out the BBC I Player files.

  • For use those BBC files you have to need file converter software.
You can convert those files into mpeg or WAV with good compression.

It depends on the cause of slowness.

Often slowness is caused by limited bandwith, in that case there is nothing to do if not upgrading the broadband.
In other situations the bandwidth is not causing the problem, and the computer is just crashing because is running out of resources.

You can check your broadband bandwith using the link below: - The Global Broadband Speed Test

How do i stop video straming interruptions?

Slow internet access
Will cause video interruptions or buffering - buy a faster internet connection speed or reduce the number of applications or people access the internet while streaming.
If your computer is slow, or has tasks which are taking a large amount of processing power to execute it can cause streaming to stutter.

Sony VAIO vgatz750p has problems plating video. Playback is in almost slow motion and choppy

You probably need more ram memory. Also try playing a video in your dvd player. If it plays slow and choppy you definitely need more ram memory.

If you are trying to play a video from a website (streaming) then three things can affect how smooth it plays.
1) Memory - your ram memory might be low
2) The website might be experience heavy traffic from many users.
3) The Line Speed of your internet connection from your service provider might be slow. For example: AT&T sells about 3 or 4 different packages and each one increases the line speed for uploading or downloading. If you buy the low end package the line speed is very slow on uploading and downloading or streaming. It's ok for just surfing, but nothing else.

I am viewing vidoe clippings from vimeo. I would like to reduce the screen size and hear only audio so that download time will be less and hanging can be avoided

I'm sorry, but this is not a current feature on Vimeo. Pausing playback and waiting for it to buffer will decrease the likelihood of stuttering, though. You may also use websites like in order to download the video and not worry about streaming it.
Thank you

Streaming starts and stops frequently during playback. Issue is random and not based on any specific file type.

Start from repairing your Windows registry and fixing your Windows errors that become the cause of many browser and applications errors causing a conflict situation.
* Test your computer for viruses and spyware.
* Run SpeedTest to test whether you have sufficient bandwidth available to smoothly play YouTube videos without causing the site to run slower.
* Disconnect your internet and then reconnect it to know why is YouTube slow and whether it is because of the poor internet at your side.
* Disable ads through some of the browser plug in that will allow you to run fewer background services while you are playing videos online.
* Try to change your flash player version. Although the YouTube has started to stream videos through a new technology there is still a large number of web sites using the flash platform. So it is a nice idea to try to change the flash player version to play videos without crashes and error messages.
* Try to change your browser. One good browser to play YouTube videos is Chrome. If you have not tried that go for it. Also contact your ISP provider if they are limiting your bandwidth at specific durations of the day.
The above solutions will most likely fix and answer your question why is YouTube slow on your computer. However, it is highly recommended you follow all the guidelines especially optimizing your PC Windows for internal registry errors through a top reginout registry cleaner

I just upgraded my PC 300PL IBM computer's RAM from 128 MB, to 256 MB on each slot (3 slotes), When i watch videos from my pc, or videos from online sites, The playback is slow and choppy. I was wondering...

The problem is that the video-player on your computer is "starving" for audio/video, because your download-speed is not fast-enough to "feed" the stream.

So, when a video starts to play, click PAUSE, and wait for the download to proceed for a while; then, click PLAY, to view the already-downloaded stream.

Flashplayer stops and starts on gateway

How fast is your Internet connection?

Often, a "slow" connection cannot download fast-enough to support "streaming" from an online source.

Start playing the video, and press "pause", and wait one or two minutes. Then, press "play", and you should get a "smooth" playback.

I would fist try updating the memory to at a minimum 256MB. You might also try changing you display card an accelerated model. My guess would be you are currently sharing memory with an onboard display card. Not good for Video streaming!
