Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

Stinky laundry The dirty clothes are put in the washer smelling dirty but not abnormally so.  when I remove the clothes they reek.  I find that this happens if the clothes are left in the washer for more than a couple of hours after the cycle is finished.  Rewashing the clothes does not remove the smell it just gets stronger with time.  I have tried using the washer cleaning cycle monthly but that has not fixed the problem.  I have tried an oder removing product such as 'Fabreze' with minimal success.  I rewashed the clothes this time on the soak cycle using borax and some powdered soap, then washing through complete cycle with vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser and that seems to have worked. Why is this happening?  I should be able to wash load at night and dry it in the morning or before I go to work and dry it in the evening.  HELP

Hi! I have Kenmore Elite 4t and had this same problem: Musty, Moldy smell in washer and on clothes. The Sears Technician suggested that I use a half a cup of Clorox Liquid Bleach and put it in the tub (not the dispenser). NO CLOTHES! Use the longest hottest setting and when it's done clean the inside (underneath rubber tire thingie) and the undernath part of the door with a papertowel. And to always leave the door open. I did what he said with the bleach and it worked. I didn't want to leave the door open because I have 2 cats & was afraid that they would want to go in it, but ended up repeating the bleach thing again because a few days later the horrible smell was back. I leave the door open all the time now and the cats never go in it. They've watched laundry spin around, so I guess they're smart enough to not want to go in it. I have not had this problem again since I always leave the door open and I did this over a month ago. I hope this helps!

Yes stinky clothes can happen. The smell gets under the gasket. Put Borax around the gasket; yes it is a challenge but when it solves your problem it is worth it.
To anyone who had let their washer get so mildewed that this will not help I have no answers. I guess you have to replace the gasket and start again.

If that's a front load washer your only supposed to use an he detergent designed for front load machines others can build suds that when they dry can cause odors also its recommended that you leave the door cracked when the washer is not being used

Smelly towels

Be sure your using HE Laundry Detergent, only use the recommended amount on the bottle, I use the liquid, the less the better, I use the least amount.....To much soap left in clothes can cause mildew and stinky smell, also I recommend using a fabric softner, it helps to remove the soap....and smells good....also use a good washer cleaner, I use Affresh, they come in tablets, go to www.affresh.com and put in you zipcode to find where you can purchase it in you area......make sure after a load is finished that it doesn't sit in the tub with the lid down for long, removing the laundry promptly will also help with stinky laundry........use the Affresh at least once a month.......hope this helps you

I have a strange odor

It is normal for all models of washing machines to have a gallon or two of water left inside the bottom of the washer and in the drain pump. This is not the cause of odor. The smell is being caused by residue left on the inside of the plastic outer tub.

The best way to clean a stinky washer is to use a washer cleaner that is able to be used with clothing in the washer. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the splash area 3-5 inches above the normal waterline. This splash area always has the worst buildup.
After the odor is gone you'll need to change washing habits to keep it away.

Sulphur like smell when washing the clothes

something not well with motor, like belt or clutch slipping. or motor overheating. you could use the machine until something fails, but i would not leave the house with the machine running.

My water has been smelling of sulfur. The clothes I was end up smelling of BO after being worn for only a short time. It isnt that the person is smell it is the clothing. Is there something to be added to...

I found that WasherFresh worked better then the Affresh.  What I really did not like is you cannot touch the Affresh tablets, WasherFresh is contained in a pouch and is not harmful to touch, because of the disolving pouch containing the chemicals.  Also after reading the package the chemicals are not harmful to the environment.
WasherFresh removed the odor causing buildup and I now use it monthly as a preventive maintenance.

Stinky clothes

I have the same problem - the clothes smell like they have been left in there for a week - stale or moldy.

It only happens with dark clothes - I have started adding color safe bleach or oxy clean and sometimes a tiny spash of bleach - it seems to have solved it.

Stinky clothes

The big door seal is probably the problem. Put on gloves and using a solution of Laundry detregent and hot water and rags, carefully wipe clean all the folds of the seal. It will be icky. Next run a cycle with some detergent and oxyclean or bleach if you have it.

Especially during warm weather, damp clothing left in a front loader mildew slightly very quickly- you can't really see much but you can smell it! So get the clothes in to the dryer immediately. You'll want to relaunder the smelly clothing after you have cleaned the washer.

Good luck to you and Thank You using FiX YA!

Dirty washing

Does your washer smell? Is your rubber door seal gungy too?

If so then use 1/2 cup of Washing Soda Crystals (50p for a 1kg bag from most supermarkets)
set washer to 60 degree wash and run machine for full hot cycle with no clothes in it... just the Washing Soda.
I did this with my washer which literally reeked, and my friends have since done theirs and the results are amazing...
Go and check your drain when you finish too... mine sparkles now and it was gunged up before.. I now add a desertspoon of Washing Soda to every wash.... I place it in the crease of the door seal and little by little all the mould is disappearing, even though the hot wash cleaned the gunge the black spots remained. My washer smells so clean now and no more black flecks on the clothes either... (these are loose gunge from the outer drum, right inside the works of your machine...)

All the best

Stinky towels

Mildew odor in towels in almost invariably being transferred from the washing machine. The clothes washer must be cleaned first then clean the smelly towels and laundry. To compare washer cleaners watch this video of Affresh and Smelly Washer...
