Call Dell and tell them, It sounds like it could be a power supply issue, however it could also be a bad motherboard as well.

I would re-seat the power connector from the power supply to the motherboard. If you are able to test the power supply output, that would be helpful as well. The problem as you describe it points towards the power supply failing.

The tower has a self contained power supply module that is the problem, it must be replaced for a new one, you need to bring the tower to a computer repair store for service, because they have to install the correct power supply for your model.

hi

it could be that your power supply (from tower) is not working -- does the fan blow out air ?
if not replace the power supply. If the power supply is on but no video on screen showing , it could be your mainboard inside the tower, thats if no noise is coming from the tower.

what were the circumstances when you worked on he computer ? was it plugged in overnight while running or was the power cord attached to tower while plugged into wall ? if so, it mnay have experienced a power surge and blew the mainboard.. too much current going to tower could blow the power supply, causing the mainboard to have received excess current

No power to tower. Pressing power on button on front of tower fails. Is there some kind of reset or fuse to look for?

There is no easy fuse. Did the computer get turned off at the back? Some power supplies have a switch on the top of the tower. Did the power strip get turned off? Have you verified that the outlet has power?
If this is not the problem, it sounds like a blown power supply. Do you have any lights on the system? If not, take the tower to a local computer shop and they can very quickly diagnose a failed power supply.

I turned on the computer and blank monitor screen.

have you checked if monitor cables are properly seated? have you tried a different known good video cable? also try a different outlet for the power supply for the monitor. lastly, try a different monitor and hook it to your tower. if it has a good display, then you should replace monitor, if still it has same issue, thenyou may want to consider changing your videocard.

Power button blinks and then goes blank. the power on the computer was turned off immediately and the computer never powered down properly.

had the same problem, its actually an issue with the motherboard, but just to eliminate that possibility, just get your computer power supply (you will find this inside the tower) checked first by a qualified technician

Blank Screen

Hi

Pls check with another monitor or another comp to check if it is a problem with the monitor or with the computer.

If it is a problem with the monitor, get the monitor serviced.

If it is problem with the computer, check with the power supply.
If the power supply is working, then reseat the cable that goes from the power button inside to the motherboard. Also try reseating the RAM, CMOS battery and the video card.

If the above steps doesnt work, then the computer needs to be serviced.

Green light blinking screen blank

Hi Suzee,

Is the green flashing on the tower or the monitor?

If it is flashing on the monitor, then it might be tht the monitor is not gettign signal from the tower.
To check, disconnect the monitor from the tower and check the monitor. If you get a msg on the screen like no input signal or check video cable, then 99% monitor is fine.

Check for the power supply light at the back of the tower.

Disconnect everything from the computer and then press and hold the power button on the comp for about 30 seconds.

Then connect the cables and check if it is working.
