1) Adjust the screen intensity with the appropriate function key.
2) Bring up System Preferences / Universal Access. Make sure the "Enhance contrast" slider is all the way to the left, and that the "Use grayscale" checkbox is unchecked.

First, try plugging in any USB keyboard to your laptop to try the "problem keys" be sure it's just your laptop's built-in keyboard that's messed up.

PowerbookMedic.com sells the built-in keyboard that goes in your 17" MacBook Pro for about $85. That will probably take care of the problem, but check iFixit.com for a guide (with pictures) on how to replace the keyboard, to assess whether you're comfortable undertaking the task.

It is likely a solder joint gone bad between the GPU and the board due to more ecologically friendly but more brittle non-lead solder. You can either take the computer to an Apple store and consider the cost of having the motherboard replaced (roughly $600) if it's no longer under warranty, or search for local technicians who are familiar with "reballing" the GPU (which shouldn't cost more than $200US). Be aware that a replaced motherboard may just be a swapout from another MBP manufactured under the same conditions. Read this article for more information. Macbook pro 17" screen is 50/50 top is displaying, bottom is gray. then it goes to 75/25 top is displaying bottom is blurred.

This is very likely due to a problem with your video card, you can use Apple's Hardware Test to make sure though. You can find detailed instructions on how to use AHT here. If it is found to be, in fact, the video card; you may want to replace it. Find the exact specs of your specific Macbook (perhaps on the Apple website), find the exact model of your card and buy it from the manufacturer or a place like newegg, it should not be too difficult to replace.

If you have "good batteries" installed in the mouse and keyboard and you still have the problem- the best way is to remove the devices via the System Preference panel in your MacBook and then re-install them again. It is important that you remove them first as the system may revert to the previous connection. Good luck!
