Question about Zebra LP 2844 Thermal Printer
There is a white line going down the middle of the label. Do I need to clean the heads or run a test page?
You should clean the head with every transfer ribbon change using the cleaning pen supplied with the printer, or with isopropyl (IPA) alcohol cleaner - dampened cotton swab.
If you want, you can open the printer, unwind some of the ribbon to give it a generous slack, clean the head under the ribbon, then wind it back taut.
If you use thermal labels without the ribbon, the head is exposed and can be easily cleaned as above.
If this doesn't help, it means that your printhead is damaged, or the roller against which it is pressed (underneath the labels) has uneven surface - look for a dent or impression around the roller in the spot you observe the white line.
Unfortunately, the head has a tendency to get damaged over time, especially if you use thermal labels without a ribbon (more abrasion); it can also be easily damaged if someone tries to clean it with hard or sharp tools - it has thousands of tiny spots that heat up to form an image, and they are rather delicate.
